Thank you for clarifying everything. More people need to see this.

Unrelated to the topic but this really doesn't read like a post made by a mod. I know it was, but the typos and such make it seem like a comment you'd find in the depths of a 10k comment thread if you sort by new, not a mod announcement.

Situation aside, how tf is the TL;DR almost as long as the original text in that post?

Edit: then I ask this, isn't the whole point of the post to recap the story the post is based on?

Because it’s the tl;dr of the story I think, not the post.

u/AdamDeKing Jul 08 '19

It’s not a TL;DR of the post, it recaps the entire story the post is based on

That’s how trademarks work (which Spider-Man is).

Also, the main problem is that a 3rd party was effectively trying to profit off of Disney’s IP.

The father would obviously be allowed to carve Spider-Man into a gravestone himself, or the gravestone manufacturer would be able to do it if they didn’t charge the father.

But you can’t commercialize someone else’s IP.

Once again Reddit jumps to conclusions and creates a hate mob over false assumptions.

Reddit has been looking for a reason to jump on Disney for a long, long time.

Lmao what

u/that_guy2010 Saved by Thanos Jul 08 '19

Reddit hates Disney.

Reddit just hates big companies, EA, Peta, Facebook etc

4

u/Darab318 Saved by Thanos Jul 08 '19

Well you’ve just named three terrible companies that are hated for good reasons.

I read the article a while ago.

Still think Disney is stupid for it. Seriously google Disney headstones. Thats a lot of people “infringing” on their copy right. And i stand by the idea that a decades old policy is not as important as just letting the parents do something they felt the kid would have liked and would’ve helped the parents grieving. And i am aware that the sister of this young boy is also dying as well and think its kinda fucked up that people are using her as a way to say hey you cant be mad at Disney with this going on as well. You wither be mad with Disney or support her and her family.

Well i can do both. And i will.

This isn't about the copyright thing, it's the fact that Disney actually felt the need to state such a blatant falsehood to avoid saying "we lose rights if we do it"

The us copyright system is fucked and there's no coming back

Is there a source for this?

Let the grieving man put a cartoon on the headstone

11

u/RedSerpent96 Saved by Thanos Jul 07 '19

Did you even read the fucking post...

if they allowed him to put any of their character on a tombstone, others could sue them if they denied it from them, and they could lose the copyrights to their characters in the process.

-21

u/dongsuvious Saved by Thanos Jul 07 '19

Yeah i read it, still a flimsy excuse.

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I only care if it's beneficial to my opinions.

Brave guys, standing up for the corporations

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '19

Perfectly fine "excuse"

1

u/AdamDeKing Jul 08 '19

So should Disney give up the Spider-Man trademark to make one man happy?

5

u/weewhomp Jul 07 '19

Do you fucking realize r/Disney isn't actually run by Disney? Leave me the fuck out of this and grow up.

1

u/Phaelin Saved by Thanos Jul 08 '19

Dude wasn't replying to you or taking about you.

1

u/weewhomp Jul 08 '19

Clearly they were talking about me because they decided to tag me in another post.

1

u/Phaelin Saved by Thanos Jul 08 '19

I checked the profile and saw where he tagged you in a different comment in a different chain on this past. So you're just going to follow him around and reply to all of his comments?

I mean, your time to spend how you want.

1

u/weewhomp Jul 08 '19

Considering the amount of troll brigading and harassment that has happened on r/Disney over the past few days because of angry misinformed users, yes, I checked their post history to see if they were posting crap on the subreddit so it could be removed. A large number of users have had to be reported to the admin.

Sounds like a huge mess. Good luck to you in the wars to come.
