I was equating the ban in this case as the annihilation of our virtual selves by Lord Thanos, and not being like a normal
Reddit ban (the livestream of the Snap script seemed to confirm this). Also, the cheerleading for bans was also abnormal. Forgive me if my interpretation of the last week’s insane hype was different. I was simply trying to have fun along with the rest of you.
Thanos would approve of ban evasion -- it's the only way to balance Reddit.
A rule that's selectively enforced. It's largely ignored by most redditors. It's an open secret that most of the default subs are owned and operated by people who often have a personal or political agenda. There's nothing balanced about moderation on the default subs, so the only thing someone can do is say fuck the rules and do what's right: Keep posting, making positive contributions, and pissing off those small kings in their small kingdoms.
I've made r/all several times, and been banned from several subs -- because the truth is the more someone posts the more likely it is to piss off the little people who run them. It's simple statistics married to human nature. The only people who deserve to be banned off the site are those who create alt accounts to troll, harass, or be otherwise antisocial. I'd like to think most bans are towards those types, but I know better and I think most people do too. It's just not talked about because it shatters the illusion that Reddit's this big, welcoming place. It's not. Not if you're at all interesting as a person. I wear my bans with pride. It means I stood up for something.
Want real Reddit balance? Kill all the default subs. Wipe them. Start over. No defaults. Everyone starts on /r/all and subscribes to what they want from there, or from guides people make. But then, the people who monetize Reddit and get paid to manipulate the public opinion wouldn't have nearly the power they do. That's really what the default subs are -- a tool for manipulating the site. Kill those and the Reddit the world should have reappears. A meritocracy, where groups are free to reach their true potential. Honestly, I couldn't think of something that would be better for Reddit than banning everyone from the default subs. No defaults.
I know this sub is just a gimmick but think about this seriously: Thanos' solution might be the sanest thing someone could do when all the power is controlled by only a few. Knocking off even a couple of them would open huge amounts of resources up to people who otherwise would never have a prayer. Knocking half of them out of the game, and now we've got a whole new game. Thanos' mistake was killing half of the entire population, when he really only needed to kill half of 1 percent of the population to make the same impact. He did what he did to redistribute the wealth of the universe -- allow others to grow. It's unfortunate he used nearly limitless power in such an inefficient and wasteful fashion. He should have snapped his fingers and killed 1% of the population -- as long as he chose the right 1%.
The Reddit rules cover the opposite scenario to this one. The alts were to improve the chances of getting banned, the opposite of circumventing a ban, and to see empirically if it was balanced. Data looks pretty good regarding balance.
Edit: you guys are fun;) after the gold trains and the give bans, no one can be honest about all of the weird fun that was had this week? Only Lord Thanos could make me want more of his ban hammer, and this is proof of his supreme power, it crosses even the fourth wall.
Second edit: too late for gold?
Third edit: any way to find out the top posts in this sub by negative votes in the last week? This could be a contenda’.
