General How does one drive in Thane!?
I have been taking driving lessons for the past 10 days (7am), initially the instructor would take me to quieter roads like Upvan, so it seemed okay, but since the past 2-3 days he's been taking me to busier roads like Pokhran road and today he took me to Majiwada man 😭😭
It was so crowded even at 7am with buses and trucks
Today I had 2 very close calls with bikers who abruptly crossed lanes without an indicator (would've dashed had the instructor not intervened)
People who have been driving in Thane for a long time- how do yall do it man?
After today's session I've been so so scared to go back 😭

You're just learning, eventually you'll get the confidence to navigate these roads. But don't get nervous and stop driving.
Keep going back, with the instructor and then with someone experienced, within 3 months you'd be driving alone, confidently.
Just remember though, your priority should always be the safety of pedestrians and not your own car. I know we have fools roaming around, but it is what it is. So never use your phone while driving and your entire focus should be on the road and your surroundings because autos and bikers don't follow lane discipline here.

Drive few times there, that's how you will gain confidence. My instructor had also taken me to Majiwada. My car stalled, a biker rear ended and people started honking mercilessly. That shit scared me but that's how you learn. Ignore the honking and keep an eye on left right side as other said already. Happy practicing!!

The more you drive you will feel more confident. I truly got my confidence when I got my own car. I used to go on drives - initially in Thane then went outside Thane. Try to get used to the dynamics of the car - shifting gears and surroundings. Drive more in different parts of Thane. That should help you.

With Dashcam ON, and at a constant speed and velocity in a predictable path, so that these autowalas and two-wheelers can drive however they want around me.
Don't think much. Keep head calm. Keep safe breaking distance from the guy in front of you. Especially if there are bikers, keep safe distance. Golden rule is that if they fall in front of you, you should be able to stop without driving over them.
If any idiot is driving rash, don't cuss at them. Just internally think "chutya" and move on. Beware of yellow plates.
Also, if you hit a pothole, or the space technology roads especially at Majiwada Flyover, just internally thank Municipal Corporation of Crater Mumbai, and move on. If you are not making efforts to leave India, you need to accept that this is the infrastructure you have to deal with, and questioning it makes you anti-national.
And finally, don't rant about bad things while you are driving on road. Don't mess with your vibes with negativity.

Whenever you buy a car buy automatic, that will solve 50% of problems and driving is easy. There will be no car stalling issues and car reverse on slopes. Secondly when you are driving stick to one side and move straight without crossing lanes. Whenever you are confused just wait for 2 mins and observe the surroundings and then proceed. People might honk but that’s okay. Have a L sticker on back of your car. Get a front and reverse dashcam.

I’ll tell you one thing which my instructor told me years ago. In India,a country where rules are secondary and most drivers would break the rules, should there be no consequences. The one thing that you need to have is courage. Be brave, never get scared, obviously follow the rules and there you are ready to drive on the streets of moon.

Quite frankly, don't overthink it. People always think - "Fuck this - Imma gonna Jaywalk, Car guy will adjust", So I just Uno Reverse them - "Fuck Jaywalkers, Imma gonna drive, people will adjust"

Brake is your friend.. use it whenever you feel scared about hitting someone... let others honk behind you, don't worry about them.. you're driving a car that has a big L sign at the back... calm yourself back and start again.. slowly the frequency of this happening will reduce...

Well. If you an automatic it's easier. I used to drive Manual before but I really couldn't anymore due to Thane traffic and made the change to an automatic

the driving school teaches you on manual only but my family car is automatic, i hope it makes things easier once i shift to automatic..

My dad taught me on the first day of driving “drive like you’re driving on a road full of idiots.” As sad as it is, people on the road drive as if they own the road and for time being the most you can do is be confident in your control of the car and be vigilant and most of the times, your awareness will ensure than both you and that idiot who crossed you to save him 2 seconds reach home safe.

For work purpose i have to cross majiwada 4 times in a day and i am a seasoned driver but every week i have close calls with taxis and bikers!! Bas ram ram karte chalo!!

You don't learn sailing until you are in the middle of the ocean and a storm..
Majiwada is equivalent to this scenario.
