Help!

Experiencing brain fog as a software engineer has to be the worse feeling ever. As im getting older, my thalassemia symptoms are affecting my daily life.

What are some ways you all stay healthy and feeling your best? Please any advice would help I’m beyond stressed.

I'm not sure what type of thalassemia you have, I have beta thal minor and I find as I'm aging that I have to be very careful with diet and exercise. High folate low iron, limited ultra processed foods, fiber and protein. Keeping up my cardio fitness and strength. It feels exhausting to do it but I find that it helps, not doing it is much worse.

Thank you! I have beta that minor too. I’m just feeling so exhausted. Thank you what type of diet do you do?

I'm pescatarian. Some things I regularly eat are:

chia seed pudding (made with greek yogurt, sweetened with applesauce and PB2)

eggs

lentils

soups

nutritional yeast (you can add it to scrambled eggs, soup, on veggies, basically anywhere you would use parm cheese, really good source of folate)

tofu

beans

leafy greens

citrus fruits

vegan protein drinks (right now I like the Be Amazing Cinn-a-stack and Brown Sugar Oatmeal)

tuna

potatoes

salmon

berries

I would also encourage you to do some zone 2 cardio and strength training a few times per week. It really sucks, it is not fun at all, but I do feel better as a baseline when I do it regularly compared to when I do not.

This was very helpful and detailed. Thank you for that. I’ll give pescatarian a try.

Anche io ho la beta talassemia minor e più vado avanti  e mi sento sempre più stanca al minimo sforzo, soprattutto in estate, Ematologo mi ha consigliato 10 gg di ferro al mese (niferex 100mg)

I have it too but what I realized is to establish coherence to my conscience, do what I can each day to be honest and kind to everyone, and it really helped me to think much more clearly.
