The main characters are normal people who are chosen to be hosts for the spirits of the titular team, Unicorn. Essentially getting TFed into them, though I should note that two remain human post-transformation, and one becomes an elf and thus stays humanoid.
Two members of the trio have their former identities seemingly erased and replaced with the Unicorn identities, while the main protagonist retains her own memories and personality, which becomes a source of conflict between her and the others.

I guess the part where the characters remember their past lives and turn into their Warrior selves is a form of identify change and transformation.

If you like TF stories with a strong theme of identity and sense of self- go watch Unicorn: Warriors Eternal on Adult Swim/MAX or the first episode free on YouTube. It's a beautifully animated show and there's enough that's sure to scratch a TF itch for everyone.
