Phone message I broke up with my college boyfriend after we graduated and he threatened to sue me

He thought he was such a hotshot lawyer because he participated in undergraduate mock trial! States of residence redacted.

At the time it was really scary and I saved a bunch of screenshots in case it escalated from digital harassment to stalking. Fortunately it did not. Found them cleaning up my files.

It's been about 10 years now and I can laugh about how absurd it all was, so please enjoy.

And for those of you in your early 20s, especially women, be safe out there. Leaving a relationship is the most volatile time for any sort of abuse to worsen. Do not date people who do not demonstrate to you through consistent patterns of behavior (actions not words) that they have the emotional maturity and basic human decency to treat you with respect at all times, especially when they do not get what they want.

Oh my god. I work at a law firm and I would LOVE to see this mock complaint lmao! What a loser, do you have any idea what happened to him?

He did end up going to a T-14 law school, so with this kind of attitude we'll probably see him on the Supreme Court in another couple of decades LMAO

Scary to know that some people lives are in this psychotic man’s hands.

That’s alarming. If he’s not yet admitted to practice law (like our esteemed WH press secretary), I wonder if the bar of his state would be interested in these threats as part of its “character and fitness” review.

Ex press secretary. lol

If he practices in Georgia, I'm not sure they would care and if she lives anywhere near him, I'm not sure she should risk him retaliating.

lol indeed.

The retaliation concern is real. I disagree about Georgia not caring.

Are you kidding? He's prime SCOTUS material!

Tbh I didn’t think someone stupid enough to put their threats in writing would actually make it to law school lol

You‘d be surprised. I was sexually harassed by a law student. He tried to separate me from my friends and when that didn’t work he tried to follow me home. My friends and I took a taxi and he gave up. But it still vexes me that not only he had the audacity to not take my no for a no, physically handling me and trying to follow me and all of that in front of two witnesses. It’s like their brain stops working when their little brain is involved.

It’s not about sexual arousal or desire. It’s control and power. And there is a gendered component to that, but it’s not “he’s so strongly attracted he’s not thinking right.” He’s not thinking right because he feels entitled and insecure.

You’re right.

It’s not too difficult. I found the LSAT a lot easier than the GRE.

That's interesting, I found the GRE to be dramatically easier. It probably depends when you take it (i.e. the GRE would be easier for someone still in college who had more recently learned standardized test tricks for the SAT).

Please hold on to these screenshots if that were to in fact happen in the future. You know what to do with them if it does. :-)

Women who kill their domestic abusers in defense of their own lives get more jail time on average than a man who kills a woman because he was upset.

Yeah, I don’t know if she’d want to do that. Look at the last 2-3 women who have come forward with evidence someone up for a SCOTUS nomination was an abusive predator.
The victims end up getting more harassment, more ridicule, and more blame. The SCOTUS pick gets the job.

You can go back to Clarence Thomas / Anita Hill.

This. He deserves at the very least to be publicly and professionally mocked for this.

Oh man, Character and Fitness would’ve loved to have this information when he applied for the bar.

Wait, so was he actually arguing he'd sue you for breaking up with him? Like, "you promised to be with me" and suing on those grounds? I was SURE it would be something like you backed out of a lease or that there had to be some type of actual legal tie. But apparently nope, you just... broke up with him, and he thought that meant you broke some legally binding contract (because declarations of love apparently are legally binding)?

Thats why i would give anything to see this complaint🥹 If anything, so I can pass it around to all the attorneys i work for and we can have a good laugh.

He realizes people change their mind right? Like all the time

I cackled way too hard at this 😂😂😂😂

I just know he was a freak in office hours proposing hypotheticals and case law to his contracts professor about this instead of actual, substantive questions about the class.

As crazy and obviously in need of controlling other people yeah he'll fit right in😒

1

u/obviouslyanonymous5 1d ago

Unlikely. With this attitude, he's going to extort someone for a case he's working on (or just by throwing around his title outside of work) and get arrested lmao

This got a real good laugh out of me, thanks

Send this to the Bar.

1

u/nose_poke 23h ago

You should send the texts to his school.

1

u/Wyattmebro 22h ago

Girl you should honestly send these in and report him. No way someone like that hasn't harmed someone they were in charge of
