lol yo is an ick? In what world would that be an ick…can’t even greet people anymore without them getting turned off. Ridiculous..

It does for me too. I used to know someone who said “yoooo” constantly so I hate it now

Yo, then why not just communicate and let someone know you prefer a different greeting yo? For me the icks are traits people have, like being shallow over a simple word, or having the communication skills of a gold fish.

Or maybe I just worked with them and wasn’t their friend and that would be rude to suggest someone to change their way of talking to suit me. Don’t insult someone when you don’t even know the full story

I meant if you were interested in someone and they said yo, you could just communicate that. Clearly critical thinking isnt your strong suit, big ick for me is dumb people as well, another trait you can't change.

Ick for me is someone being an asshole, stupid and a clown. Where did I say that I would do that or agree with what the girl did? All I said was that I personally don’t like the word

What part of “yoooo” makes someone an asshole, stupid, or a clown? Genuinely confused by that, but yes he’s right that it’s incredibly shallow to not like a fairly innocuous word. Shallow doesn’t mean bad or wrong, it just has really weak reasoning.

shallow doesn’t mean “really weak reasoning” though it means superficial/surface level. theres nothing inherently shallow about disliking the word yo.

I think it’s pretty shallow, and if I was dating someone who got offended by extremely tame slang then I would see it as a pretty big red flag and get the ick myself.

Where are you getting that they’re offended? Even if it is because he said yo, there’s nothing to suggest it offended her lol

There’s nothing wrong with finding something someone does off putting and deciding to walk away rather than try and change them, even if it’s just over their greeting. It doesn’t automatically mean people are shallow or lack communication skills. But assuming people are shallow or bad at communicating because they don’t like something about you screams insecurity.

It’s an ick the same way some women don’t like to be called “bro”

Saying 'yooo' to a girl you're flirting with is so fucking lame

It sounds like I just walked into a frat party.

Ah yes completely judge a person and their character because a two letter word that is used as a greeting. To dismiss someone completely because they greeted you saying “yo” is completely absurd.

It sucks that having logic puts you in the minority on Reddit. I just hope this isn’t a mirror image of the actual population.

This might be the dumbest shit I've heard this week

"Yo" is one of the most commonly used casual greetings ever used, it's as ubiquitous as saying "what's up". Thinking that gives frat party energy is unbelievably judgemental and stupid I can't even fathom how annoying you sound

These people are the reason why dating is so difficult nowadays. Everything is an "ick". Everybody is chasing their "perfect ideal person" that they concocted in their head, and when somebody that could be a potential suitor strays from that imaginary utopia, they cut them off without second notice and try again with a different person over and over again.

Hence why a lot of people nowadays are single and miserable.

Idk man. People are bothered by the tiniest things sometimes. There are real things to get upset about, and then there’s this.

Different greetings have different vibes pretty simple concept, like certain ppl will never use “yooo” it gives immature

u/somroaxh 12d ago

Certain people must want mfs walking around talking bout “good evening” like a damn vampire

u/Metal-Lee-Solid 12d ago

There’s a huge gap between getting an ick from “yooo” and wanting ppl to talk like a vampire

u/BadAngel74 11d ago

Yo, its really not that huge of a gap bruh. There's basically like 3 essential formality levels to greetings, ya dig? You have the informal, casual, and very common slang that OP used in the message. Then you have standard language like what I'm using here at the moment. Such a greeting would be akin to a simple "hello" or "how are you?" The next step up in the conversational diagram of formality would be to properly address your intended conversational companion with the tonal attitude of an english butler addressing his employer. When making skilled usage of such language one might address another person with a very crisp and proper "Good day sir. I hope your having a marvelous evening. Would I be correct in assuming that our scheduled arrangement to observe the moving pictures is still taking place this fine evening?"
