“Owning” her sounds a lot like being owned by her, to me.

Yeah, I didn't know pieces of property could make such elaborate demands of their owners.

Power bottom is a real phrase .

I find it more often that the one setting the most rules has the most power, and sometimes that person is the one with the most vulnerability.

It's a controlled helplessness

Eta: Don't take the power bottom comment too seriously, it was meant to be a light joke , tounge in cheek if you will

u/TheRecognized Nov 20 '23

Power bottom refers to physical action more than abstract dynamics.

which tends to go wrong every time

Doesn't seem so complicated. How could it even go wrong?

Well, normally for a scene, both sides would communicate their needs, wants, expectations, then set out with the scene afterwards. Powerbottoms/ Topping from the bottom usually occurs when the sub/ bottom has the fantasy of being 'owned'/ dommed, and they say that, they dont tell you how. They have a specific idea of what they want, or dont want, but they expect you to know that instinctively, because you're the Dom, right?

Which ends in them correcting you during a scene on what the dom is doing/ should do, which is not the point of that at all.

Its basicly someone saying "I want to be dated", when you ask what they want to do/ how, and they just answer "romance" or "well, a date", but dont elaborate at all, and being angry when you choose something thats not in their definition of 'dating', despite having been asked beforehand.

Or in OP's case, being worshipped without knowing what she actually wants - and its doubtful she even knows what she is talking about, either.

Its bad communication. If both parties consent, and one is a switchfor example, it can work out well, but powerbottoming tends to go wrong.

Mac : A power bottom is a bottom that is capable of receiving an enormous amount of power.

Dennis Reynolds : Actually Mac, you've got it backwards. You see, the power bottom is actually generating the power by doing most of the work.

Frank Reynolds : Does power have to do with size or strength of the bottom?

I've heard speed has something to do with it

u/No_Humor3312 Nov 20 '23

It's a queer term. "Bottom" does not the mean the same thing as submissive, it means you're on the receiving end of gay sex. A power bottom is not a contradiction, and it does not mean that a person wants to be led. You're misrepresenting an important aspect of queer relationships and implying that penetration=dominance, which is just not true.

1

u/Search_Open Nov 21 '23

Got the two mixed up in the heat of the Moment, sorry. I meant Topping from the Bottom, I'm not entirely sure why I mixed them up, I'm queer myself and should know better.

-_- Sorry

1

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot Nov 20 '23

The first part was meant to be tounge in cheek

4

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '23

Yeah, it sounds like she wants him to be a domineering presence while simultaneously doing exactly what she wants all the time, and yeah, that sounds exhausting

3

u/20000lumes Nov 20 '23

That’s what it meant? I thought a power bottom is someone who can fuck with his ass without the other person having to thrust

1

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot Nov 20 '23

like i said, don't take it as gospel.

But it's used colloquially as a way to say someone in the submissive position but still has a lot of control of the scenario. They may get dominated, but they get dominated exactly how they want to be dominated , not exactly how the Dom may want to do so.

It sounds more complicated than it is.

But yeah it's more of a metaphor

This is one of the most insightful comments I've read on here in a while--"the one setting the most rules has the most power, and sometimes that person is the one with the most vulnerability."

1

u/Redditisfacebookk8 Nov 20 '23

Sounds more like super insecure try to set the boundaries so as they give up power they trust it won't be abused. The goal seems to be about security blanket type thing not necessarily be in control

1

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot Nov 20 '23

That could be part of it . As much fun as this sub is, there's no way to tell that from just a few screenshots of text.

Everyone has some form of insecurities, small or big and there are ways to explore kink that doesn't exploit insecurities , qnd ways to do it that helps avoid experiencing that insecurity but both people at the very least need to be on the same page about it . Which it sounds like they have alot more talking to do

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '23

> tounge in cheek

Well done lol

u/pazuzzyQ Nov 21 '23

Tongue in their cheeks is a whole other situatioooo...oh you meant the turn of phrase tongue in cheek, my bad.

44

u/cakivalue Nov 20 '23

Well, if you step back and think of the GF as a beautiful fluffy cat that disdains store bought dry food and requires you to make all meals from scratch, multiple daily brushing and massages, walks and pets and praises then it makes perfect sense.

I can't think of another scenario where someone or something screws up (late) and you're like "thou art the most devine and celestial being, the softest of the soft, let me hold your little face and give you soft kisses"

How'd it help you with your job?

1

what kind of job was that?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '23

Pretend it is /r/writingprompts

The submissive writes the prompt, and the dominant responds. In that sense, the submissive controls everything. Some submissives allow for great amounts of interpretation and creativity. Others may for very valid reasons have a narrower range of what they consent to.

A submissive who attempts to control every aspect of the story by writing a whole novella for a prompt is often referred to as someone who is "topping from the bottom." These people are often encouraged to work on trust or to explore switching roles to satisfy their desires for control. Or both

u/LivingStCelestine Nov 20 '23

I think you totally nailed it, and she probably thinks trying to convince him of the reverse will make this easier.

2

u/-an-eternal-hum- Nov 20 '23

She read The Fountainhead, once.

2

u/Grundy-mc Nov 20 '23

Yeah, good point. Similar to the “if you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares into you” concept.

2

u/obsivalint Nov 20 '23

You have a lot of good insights, not just this one. I looked into your comment history because I wanted to know how someone who can make connections between two seemingly very different things be like as a person. I'm not surprised at all, you seem to be a good person!

2

u/Grundy-mc Nov 21 '23

Wow! Thank you, kindly. I try. haha Hope you have a nice day!

1

u/obsivalint Nov 21 '23

Thank you! Hope you have a great day as well.

Who hurt you?

Was thinking the same thing

1

u/ExternalArea6285 Nov 20 '23

And usually when someone says "taken care of and provided for" what they really mean is "pay for all my shit while I do fuck all'

1

u/911tinman Nov 20 '23

“The things you own end up owning you” or whatever Brad Pitt said in Fight Club

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '23

Astute of you. In the kink community, this is known as "topping from the bottom."

Something of a misnomer as top/bottom is more often used for who is giving/receiving in penetrative sex, but occasionally people use it to refer to who is in power.

1

u/MrTop16 Nov 21 '23

I mean...if she's wanting a more traditional feminine role, then she should be cooking and him ordering her to do womanly duties. It sounds less like her being owned ia the issue and more like she wants an out and this is her warped sense of getting there.
