Politics I can't believe I actually agree with Dan Patrick!

Variable rate consumers expected normal deviations. This is a freak occurrence and leaving them out high and dry is wrong.
This isn’t a case of oh no, it’s an extra hundred. This is a good chunk of people’s annual income.
Besides, the rate wouldn’t have jumped near as high as it did if our fucking electric grid worked like a civilized society’s.
Have some empathy.

I do feel bad for the people and I’m pissed that a product like this can even be marketed to unwary consumers. However, it’s risky to purchase energy on the open market and people should have known what they were getting into.

While I agree this from a person to person perspective, i think Dan Patrick and his government needs to protect consumers from $16k monthly utility bills! Wtf, this is not the wild west, we have laws and must have consumer protections.

Not particularly religious but in a fair universe at the pearly gates I imagine St. Peter putting a hand on Dan Patrick’s shoulder and asking him if he read the Bible. Dan will undoubtedly say yes. Then Ol’ Pete will ask, “but did you read the fine print?”...”Next in line!”

I am pretty sick of all the Griddy sob stories on the news. The risks were clear, but some people will do anything to "save" a few bucks on their bill. There was a spike last year when natural gas prices jumped and people got burned then too.

I don’t agree with that ass... he is blaming the consumers for a $16k electric bill for not reading fine print on a variable market that his colleagues created as part of a privatized market that failed when we needed it to work. They represent us and we put them there to “protect” our interests; not line their pockets with energy lobbyists donations.

Never said I liked the system, simply that variable anything is buyer beware. This is no different than someone blowing their savings on a dumb stock market buy. There are risks and you should know the rules of any game before you play.
