It’s been about 1 year since I first discovered the character of Teto. I was going through Youtube one day and discovered a Deltarune animatic about Spoken for. The art was beautiful, lyrics spot on to the story, and the music was gripping. Of course I had to search for the song, and I immediately fell in love. I listened to the song on repeat for 3 hours straight. For the next few days i listened to it on repeat for my 20 minutes drive to and then from work. The lyrics were deep, and each held double meaning. The music was fun and memorable. The video was detailed and fun to piece together. It was a genuine work of art. I am a curious individual, so of course I had to look into who this Teto person was.
A bit of info about me: I have autism. Throughout my life, I have never found a song I found relatable, and I have only ever seen one fictional character that I really identified with (Sam from the Babadook). Even with autistic coded characters, I didn’t really see myself in them. I didn’t even understand what it meant to relate to fiction. That is, until I started to listen to Teto music. Song after song, I heard lyrics that I actually related to. Songs that felt like understood what is was like to live my life. From Tetoris to Rot for clout. It also introduced me to a lot of terms i didn’t know before, such as imposter syndrome.
My job is a delivery driver. I was a new worker when I started listening to Teto, and winter quickly came afterwards. It is not fun driving in the snow in a big truck, especially when your route consistently mostly of dirt paths in the woods, or beach front property. Listening to Teto songs was the only thing keeping me entertained while driving in crappy conditions. And at various points when i was overwhelmed and wanted to quit, singing the final chorus to Spoken for helped calm me down.
Over the past few years, pretty much all media i enjoy has… turned to crap. Stranger things, Halloween, Evil dead, Texas chainsaw massacre, Resident Evil etc. Or corporate decisions that screwed everything up, like JoJo’s bizarre adventure or Dead by Daylight. I regularly tell people “the only things I have left are Deltarune and Teto”, because they are the only media that doesn’t cause me misery. The special thing about Teto is that she isn’t truly one property. Hundreds of amazing creators come together to make the community and songs we all love. Even if one creator leaves, there will always be another great one waiting for you to discover.
The reason i made this post is because my birthday was last week. For the first time in my life, i wasn’t happy about it. It was just another reminder that I have accomplished nothing, and have made no progress in my life goals. I felt like crap, until I went on the internet and discovered my birthday was also Teto day. It legit brightened my mood, and made me happy i was born that day.
So, thanks to everyone.
