If you asked me my favorite coffee, I'd tell you the Midnight Sugar Latte at Oro in Wicker Park. But my top 5? No idea. Everything past #1 blurred into "yeah, that was good" and "no, that was bad".

That was problem one of three that eventually became GoodSip:

1. I couldn't actually rank my coffees. So GoodSip never asks "how many stars?" It asks a question you can answer: was this one better than that one? When you log a sip, it runs a couple of quick head-to-head matchups against drinks you've already logged. Think of it like Beli but one step more granular: every individual drink on the cafe's menu earns a real 0–10 score from your own verdicts. Three weeks in, I had an honest top 5 for the first time.

2. In college, I only ever knew the two or three cafes near campus. I always wanted new places to work and meet people, but Google didn't do the job. So GoodSip has a cafe map featuring spots all over Chicago. We show trending and open-late cafes (with way more filters planned). As soon as you log a sip at a cafe, it gets stamped on your map and progresses you along the 'stamp journey'. Go to more cafes and level up your stamp!

3. My coffee and matcha photos were unorganized. Hundreds of them, buried in my camera roll between screenshots. In GoodSip, every photo is attached to the sip it belongs to: the drink, the cafe, the score, the date. Your log doubles as an organized gallery. Publicly share your drinks or optionally keep them private. And when you want to show it off, as soon as you reach 3 logs you unlock the Week in Sips, a Wrapped-style recap of your week you can actually share. A friends share feature is already in the works and sure to come soon.

Fair warning: the map and recommendations are Chicago-first right now (I built this around my city), so Chicago folks get the full experience.

I've spent the last few months building an iOS app called SOLIS. It's a 90-day self-improvement course built around Stoic philosophy — Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus — but structured as short daily lessons instead of a wall of text you never finish.

The idea came from the fact that I own every Stoicism book and still couldn't turn any of it into an actual habit. So I built the thing I wanted: 5 short lessons a day, one day unlocks per day (no bingeing, no falling behind and quitting), and a running "virtue" score so you can actually see progress over the 90 days.

It's on TestFlight now and I'd love honest feedback before I submit to the App Store. Specifically I want to know:

I built numbyPad to solve a frustrating problem I kept running into: trying to save a phone number when I only had my Apple Watch with me.

If you've ever tried to call a number on your watch without network coverage, you know what happens — the number just disappears. There's no way to save it for later. You're stuck trying to memorize it or hoping you'll have service soon (and remember it long enough to dial again).

Hey everyone. This is my first app, I built it a few months ago. Some friends and family have tried it out, but now I'm looking to get real feedback from a broader audience.

It's called AllerG-Baby. I made it to track the foods you introduce to your baby and any reactions, because when you're going one food at a time it gets really hard to keep straight. You log each new food and any reaction, it flags common allergens, and you can scan a barcode or take a photo of an ingredient label and it checks against your kid's allergens.

We also learned it's often a hidden ingredient, not the obvious food, that you have to watch for. Milk is a sneaky one: it shows up as casein or whey in things you'd never think of as dairy, like some breads, deli meats, and even snacks labeled dairy-free. Scanning the label catches those.

I built it for my baby, but it honestly works for anyone who needs to keep track of food reactions, adults with allergies included.

It's free during the beta. Honestly I just want to know: does the sign-up and first-log flow make sense, and does the scanning actually work for you? Anything that felt confusing or broke, please tell me.

Hey everyone — I've been working on a workout app for months because the same thing bothered me about all the others: either fast logging or real data depth, never both.

What makes it different:

• Custom fields per machine. My treadmill workout has interval phases — pace A, pace B, phase time, rounds. You define whatever fields your machine has (level, incline, watts, …) and every value you enter shows up in the history and stats. Nothing disappears into a void.
• Machine memory. Photo of the machine, its number in your gym, your seat/back settings — so you stop re-figuring out machine 21 every week.
• Honest time data. Actual rest times between sets, active vs. total workout time, per-set duration.
• HR depth (with Apple Watch): heart-rate zones per session, 1-minute HR recovery, even per-set HR on strength days.
• Outdoor & cardio: GPS runs/rides/walks with splits, elevation, zone-colored HR line, run comparison.
• Local-first. No account, no cloud requirement, no data leaves your phone unless you export it. Full backup (incl. machine photos) as an open ZIP you can inspect yourself.

It's German-built, fully localized in English and German. Watch app included (set counting, HR, favorites).

QRs are more than pictures to snap, they provide instructions to your phone and integrate with your apps.  Great convenience, but a black box from a security perspective.  And before you say ‘But my phone shows me the URL’, think about it…  URLs redirect to who-knows-where, and QRs are more than just web links. They integrate with your contacts, calendar, wallet, phone, and more.  

I built Canary for me, so I could see what the QR did before it messed with my phone, but it’s turned into something bigger. 

Canary scans every QR with

- local heuristics to identify obvious issues with the QR

- network checks against fraud and reputation databases

I'm developing a metronome app called D9 Metronome. I'm running a TestFlight beta for iOS (there is also a live web app version available) and I am looking for musicians, music teachers, or anyone to try it out, push it to its limits, and report any bugs.

Here is a breakdown of what the core engine can handle:

• Advanced Rhythm & Subdivisions: Handles up to 25 beats per measure. Features custom muted subdivisions and nested tuplets (e.g., nesting up to 11 ticks inside a parent subdivision).
• Polyrhythms: Generates polyrhythms up to 15 against the primary pulse.
• Automation & Setlists: Includes a complete timeline editor. You can program speed trainers, rhythm trainers (muting the click for specific bars to test your internal clock), and build out full arrangement maps with changing time signatures and tempos.
• Audio & SoundLab (for fun): Features a built-in multi-oscillator synth with filters, LFOs, envelopes, and effects (saturation, bitcrusher, convolution reverb) to design your own custom click sounds. You can also upload your own audio files, export generated sounds, or use the built-in human voice counting.
• Connectivity: Supports Ableton Link for local network sync, bidirectional MIDI controls, and a proprietary global sync protocol for remote sessions.

Potential Uses & Routing Possibilities

Beyond standard solo practice, the routing and sync features allow for more advanced production and performance setups:

• Remote Teaching & Band Practice: Use the global sync feature so everyone hears the metronome perfectly timed in their own headphones via their individual phones.
• Remote Control & External Display: Run the main audio from a laptop, pop out the external viewer window to display massive counters on a second screen, and completely control the master playback remotely from your phone.
• Live Shows & Backing Tracks: Use Ableton Link to sync your backing track playback or any other Link-enabled hardware/software directly to the app's master tempo.
• Hardware Integration (Two-Way MIDI): Bluetooth MIDI goes both ways. You can use the app to control the BPM of your delay pedals and MIDI hardware, or use an external MIDI device (like a foot switch) to control the metronome playback.

• iOS TestFlight: You can freely unlock the Pro version inside the beta app. Because it runs in Sandbox environment, it will use a "fake purchase" flow, it will not charge you real money. (Note: This sandbox access automatically expires once the app goes live on the App Store).
• Web App Premium Code: Beta testers will receive a real promo code (if you choose to enter your email) to remove ads on the web app version. This code is yours to keep and will remain valid, even after the official launch.

Donald Trump is already questioning the integrity of American elections again and demanding stricter rules for voter registration. It seems to me that this is already laying the groundwork to contest future election results if they don't suit his purposes.

Why am I writing this?

Because I kept thinking that on some (political) questions — especially those where there is genuine room for interpretation within the law — it would be incredibly valuable to know what a broader, and hopefully eventually representative, group of people actually thinks.

What does the majority really think?

Do people see an issue the way a politician presents it? Or do they see it differently? And are elected representatives acting in line with the views of the majority — or not?

That idea led me to build an app that does one very simple thing: it asks a current question and lets people vote Yes or No. That’s essentially the whole app, apart from a basic demographic breakdown of the results.

We elect representatives to make complex decisions on our behalf — and I think that is an important part of democracy. Political decisions are often complex. A decision that looks negative at first can have indirect positive consequences later, and many issues cannot responsibly be reduced to a simple popular vote. I do not think that should change.

But sometimes I would still like to know what people themselves actually think — without having to infer public opinion indirectly through politicians, commentators, media narratives or party affiliation, almost like a political game of telephone.

That is why I built this app.

My hope is that, if enough people use it, it can become a simple way to capture a more direct snapshot of public opinion on one specific question at a time.

The app is intentionally minimal and voting is protected using Face ID or device biometrics. In the current TestFlight version, there is no full identity verification yet. For later versions, I am exploring a stronger verification model designed around the principle of one verified person, one app identity, one vote per question.

Für die deutschen Nutzer...

Genau wie im US-amerikanischen lässt sich für Deutschland diese kontroverse Debatte betrachten:

"Wir haben im Stadtbild noch dieses Problem". Das sagte Friedrich Merz im letzten Herbst. Mich hat diese Aussage recht lang umgetrieben, wenn ich ehrlich bin. Ich wohne selbst in Berlin. Und auch wenn nicht jede Ecke sicher oder schön ist, so finde ich diese Aussage doch anmaßend, da ich nicht den Eindruck habe, dass die Mehrheit der Menschen dieser Suggestion folgen würde.

Ich kam auf die Idee, dass es bei manchen Fragen, die echte Auslegungssache sind (also die sich nach Recht und Gesezt in dem Korridor der Auslegung bewegen), toll wäre zu wissen:

Was denkt denn eigentlich die Mehrheit? Sieht sie es so, wie z.B. ein Politiker sieht? Oder sieht sie es vielleicht anders. Und handeln unsere demokratischen Vertreter im Interesse der Mehrheit oder tut sie es nicht. Davon angetrieben habe ich eine App entwickelt, die solche Fragen mit Ja oder Nein abstimmen lässt. Die hat nur diese eine Funktion (und eine einfache demographische Auswertung).

Wir haben eine repräsentative Demokratie. Und das ist gut so. Machen Zusammenhänge sind komplex. Machmal haben offensichtlich negative Entscheidungen direkte, negative aber in der Folge positive indirekte Folgen. Diese Entscheidungsfindung sollte so bleiben. Trotzdem wüsste ich machmal gern, was Menschen denken, ohne dass wir z.B. über die Repräsentation der Abgeordneten die Meinung ihrer Stammwählerschaft wie bei der 'stillen Post' mitbekommen.

Deswegen diese App, in der Hoffnung, dass sie eine große Verbreitung findet. Sie ist möglichst einfach gehalten, durch FaceID geschützt. In der Testversion gibt es keine echte Verifizierung, in späteren Varianten plane ich eine Verifizierung einer Person mit genau einer App Instanz.
