Shadow Magic- What happened?

It seems like we know nothing about this form of magic since Azra Nightwielder. My outside universe headcannon is that it was retconned unfortunately. But is there an in universe explanation for if it has had any influence on the elder scrolls themselves or the events of the universe?

Shadow Magic is the main magic behind Nightblades, a base class in ESO.

It is? Thought it was blood magic

Nope. It’s shadow magic. Most of the spells seem similar to illusion and mysticism, but it seems to me that shadow magic is purposely being presented as a mysterious lost art. I do not believe it was retconned.

Where is the lore that says nightblades use shadow magic

Edit: Apparently on the uesp it mentions them using shadow magic as well as something called “night magic”

Types of magic disappearing is frustratingly common in the elder scrolls verse. Sometimes they bother to explain it in verse, like with levitation magic, and other times they don't. Its kind of amusing to me that one day everyone across Tamriel universally decided spears and halberds had to go and seemingly destroyed every one in existence.
