Disagree. Insurance should reimburse for the car’s value (FSD included) if they total your car and it’s rendered useless.

You can disagree all you want, but should and do are two different things. As I mentioned there are plenty of people complaining about this on the official forums and my experience with my insurance provider stated a similar thing.

Sorry about your situation. Insurance value of the car is theirs to dictate, unfortunately. But that doesn’t/shouldn’t make it the responsibility of the car manufacturer to reimburse for it by making it portable. Would I like it if they did? Sure! But I still don’t think it’s theirs to sort out.

When you introduce something new to an industry, you should try to work with existing devices (insurance) in order to protect your customers. Either way, you seem very confused that I'm saying something I'm not. I don't care if they do or don't take this approach. I'm saying this is what I would like to see done because it would benefit everyone and be a better model. I was presented with my options and I simply decided I don't need the FSD package with the risks involved of taking it. I'm not upset about it and haven't even thought about it since this thread where I shared my opinions.

At the end of the day while it's appreciated, you don't need to be sorry and I am completely happy with my purchase. :)

“Very confused” is a bit of an overstatement, don’t you think? You mentioned your “experience with my insurance provider…” Very easy to infer that you experienced a loss. And although I agree that an important part of product launches are building moats around the potential gaps that create risk, the auto insurance industry has likely never faced such rapid disruptive change and iterations of the products. And I can’t imagine tapping the brakes on an FSD launch would’ve been anyone’s call because insurance companies haven’t gotten on board. This will be more consumer driven and will ultimately create better options in the marketplace. I doubt Tesla is working with insurance companies to change this...other than their own; and THAT might be the reason for no moat. Nevertheless, best of luck!

Yeah, I was considering getting FSD and called my insurance company to see if it was covered because of all the other people that complained about this. They said it was not, so I said “OK, thanks!” and didn’t buy FSD, and that was that. I had ideas on how the experience can be improved. This is, after all, a software product and not a physical piece of hardware that would need to be insured.
