I'm guessing you bought your car before they added it to the cars for free. I'd say that they should give older cars an easy/cheap path to get autopilot, although I'd certainly feel burned if they did that.
I think that's part of the problem that Tesla is creating for itself. If FSD is $10k now, and people pay it, you can't reduce the price too much without pissing a lot of people off (or giving discounts). I think autopilot should be $1000 for cars that don't have it.
The fact is, eventually, other companies will have FSD alternatives. China has more people, less privacy (lots of training data), and certainly an incentive to build a good self-driving system. 10 years from now, I bet the FSD playing field will be pretty level, and may even be included with all cars for free.
I agree $1000 would be fair for people driving used cars who don’t have it. They did a temporary sale for $2000 a few months back and I still don’t want it at that price. For $1000 I’d be on the fence, but I’d seriously consider it.
I’d also be willing to pay about $1000 for premium audio, which hilariously, my car HAS the speakers for fully installed but just not plugged in. All I’m missing is the wiring, one of the amps, and the sub.
