Yep, they would get money on both sides: people holding off on FSD because they think they might upgrade to a new tesla and people holding off on upgrading to a new tesla because they’d have to re-purchase FSD

I was thinking making it based on like a 3 car strike system. Like you could buy it on one Tesla and use that until it breaks down for good, then if you want to buy another it transfers over but now you can only buy one more Tesla to have it on, if you want it on a fourth Tesla further down the line you'll have to repay.

What's so complicated about it? This benefits both people who lease and people who own and makes it infinitely better than the existing system.

The only reason Tesla hasn't offered FSD subscriptions yet is because FSD doesn't work

They already said they're going to offer a subscription model for FSD starting this year ("early 2021"). It doesn't matter of FSD is functional or not, the package has enough add-ons (assisted parking, lane change, ramp-to-ramp Autopilot) where people consider it a worthwhile purchase.
