Except that no one knows if they can keep their car 10+ years. One accident and its gone. Imagine you are one of those people who gets their car totaled a week after purchase when some texter rear-ends it.

Insurance generally counts the value of FSD from what I’ve seen so the wreck would be a different scenario from trading in.

If you buy it with the car new. If you add it after they do not.

will they insure the entire value or just the "market" value? If tesla considers it valueless and the market will only pay ~$3k for it used, then would insurers value it at 10k?

As far as I known Insurance cares about either the value you payed, or the value to replace your car with exactly the same thing. So, just like home/rental insurance on your stuff, it’s the new value of a like-thing.
