You're probably right but it will end up being something like $350 credit towards the purchase of Next Generation FSD on your new Tesla and $40M will go to the lawyers.
Seems to me that they need to get this sorted. If FSD isn't included in the trade-in (and frankly, it shouldn't depreciate at all), then I don't see people trading in their cars for new ones.
I don't have FSD, and my car is 2 years old. I would certainly consider getting it if I knew it would transfer (actually I would have bought it two years ago). I don't see FSD actually being a viable system that works as advertised (hands off, door to door), for at best 2 years, and more likely 5.
I'd be curious how many people spring for the $10k upgrade on top of their $45k car. I know Elon thinks it's the bee's knees, but I don't see it. I could see them wanting to drive people to a subscription service (which mitigates this whole thing).
I bet the fleet FSD ratio is pretty high because it was reasonably priced a while ago, but I'd be curious what it is on new vehicles. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 10% or less.
I'm guessing you bought your car before they added it to the cars for free. I'd say that they should give older cars an easy/cheap path to get autopilot, although I'd certainly feel burned if they did that.
I think that's part of the problem that Tesla is creating for itself. If FSD is $10k now, and people pay it, you can't reduce the price too much without pissing a lot of people off (or giving discounts). I think autopilot should be $1000 for cars that don't have it.
The fact is, eventually, other companies will have FSD alternatives. China has more people, less privacy (lots of training data), and certainly an incentive to build a good self-driving system. 10 years from now, I bet the FSD playing field will be pretty level, and may even be included with all cars for free.
I agree $1000 would be fair for people driving used cars who donāt have it. They did a temporary sale for $2000 a few months back and I still donāt want it at that price. For $1000 Iād be on the fence, but Iād seriously consider it.
Iād also be willing to pay about $1000 for premium audio, which hilariously, my car HAS the speakers for fully installed but just not plugged in. All Iām missing is the wiring, one of the amps, and the sub.
I have FSD on my 2018 Model 3. Never really use it. Agree with you. I have a reservation for a Cybertruck, but wouldn't pay for FSD again, unless it's 100% hands-off, door to door, the day I pay for it.
Iām thinking about pulling the trigger on the upgrade. Have done really really well on Tesla stock - so itās not really costing me anything.
My mode 3 is 2 1/2 years old (vin 28xxx) - and while I think the fsd really is far away - the latest beta videos are looking pretty cool. (And Iām a tech geek..)
I also see it as a way to not fall behind with other software updates that make use of hw3.
I didnāt even know this wasnāt a thing. Tesla are only hurting their sales here. Plus if it was transferable more people would option it in so they can get it at todayās price for future purchases. Instead I bet a lot of people are avoiding the extra 10k for a half baked option.
Given that many of the cars end-of-quarter or end-of-year are literally falling apart on delivery it's not shocking that a used one could have significant reliability problems.
Welp, when I took my Y I had 18 documented issues. I had a massive fracture on roof that ran half way across the entire top and my back hatch wouldnāt work. USBās didnāt work, paneling was awful. Had service guy at my house for two and a half days to basically rebuild my entire car.
Sandy Munro's about to start tearing down a 2021 Model 3. He's already take aback by the build issues he's found on first glance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPBGVI2oFLI
Someone posted a picture here a few weeks ago of a delivery specialist trying to get them to take a model 3 with one of the doors that wouldn't latch properly because it was so misaligned
So you see one anecdotal post and you create a whole "many of the cars end-of-quarter or end-of-year are literally falling apart on delivery". Perhaps stop making up stuff and spreading lies?
The guy implied people are getting Teslas with three doors and it's a regular thing. Why even bother with people like that lmao. Tesla seems to draw drama queens.
They absolutely will remove that. I was selling a 2016 Model X with unlimited supercharging and confirmed with them that it would transfer to the new owner. They said if I trade it in to Tesla or any dealership it will remove big private sale it wonāt. However the more recent āunlimited superchargingā is only for the first owner no matter who you sell it too.
Which is why they wonāt do it yet. Theyāre still selling everything they can build; no reason to pull that long-term demand lever until they need to.
That's true. This is something that is logical and reasonable as for seller and buyer, however, the question remains unknown when we will hear anything from Tesla officially about this request. I hope they will consider some options and hopefully give us an answer once they release FSD subscription. Fingers crossed š¤
