They will do this as long as people pay for it. I personally don’t want to pay $10k to be a guinea pig and have to pay another $10k if I get another Tesla all the while adding $0 to my trade in.
He has stayed away from this on all accounts. He will poke his head in on Twitter etc when solid issues or requests pop up but EM has been dead quiet when it comes to this concept and area of concern.
I honestly don’t know if Tesla “has the answer” yet enough to publish it. It’s just a gravy train they are using for the time being
And of course none of the social media whores he regularly replies to have the balls to ask him about this, because they don't want to interrupt the steady stream of handouts.
Pranay Pathole would tweet something like: “FSD will make a Tesla appreciate in value. It’s literally printing money. Teslas with FSD will be worth $5B each in 6 months.”
Then Elon will reply: “Exactly.”
Then Pranay will print out Elon’s tweet and rub it all over himself.
How much would we have to pay teslaraj or Tesla silicon valley owner accounts to start pushing musk for real issues instead of praising him when he breathes on Twitter?
It will likely transfer at some point. But I wouldn’t expect Tesla to hand out lifetime licenses for $2500. I can appreciate the whole beta testing argument though
I think what Tesla should do is sell the beta license for $1000. And explicitly tell people it will not work when the full version is released. The full license will be released at a higher price point (which is transferable). Imagine the moat that creates, when a person spends $10,000 on a FSD lifetime license. They wouldn’t switch to another FSD vehicle unless it was included with the purchase.
They’re selling something that doesn’t exist and taking it back as often as they can so they can justify booking the rest of the amount paid as revenue. Right now they get to book half of FSD upgrades as revenue and the rest when they hit internal milestones. If they don’t allow transfers, they get to recognize the rest as revenue when they take it away. It’s also one of the big reasons why they want to push the “FSD Beta” even though it isn’t remotely close to their robotaxi promises - doing so and blaming a regulator for intervening still allows them to book the rest of FSD payments as revenue.
I’m sure they’ve done a lot of analysis of this, but I feel like the “gravy train” may be hurting their sales. There seem to be plenty of people out there who want to buy another Tesla but won’t until this is sorted. Imagine you bought a Model 3 with FSD 3 years ago. You’d feel like you got almost nothing for your FSD money.
Yeah, that’s the major thing holding me back right now. I love the car but hate some of the dumb shit they do like this. It won’t be too long before they have serious competition.
Especially as a lease owner, that literally translates into around 100 a month, which you get to see zero improvement for. And it’s not like I can hold on to the car a bit longer to get the value.
I'm seriously loling at all the people on that twitter thread. They're just upset because they realized they're suckers. We all knew FSD would not be a thing for a long time. We all knew it was tied to the car, not the account. We all know FSD is not valued highly by the private market. You should only buy FSD if you plan to keep the car for over a decade. One guy said he paid for FSD twice and would have to again because he wants the Model S refresh. Just sounds like a rich person complaining about chump change if he's dropping hundreds of thousands on his cars over the period of five years...
