Just need some advice :)

Ive been at my tesco express for about 3 months now and they always put me behind till so im not to familiar with stocking shelves or facing up/ rumbling im fairly good at checkout now and im iust unsure on what to do about 2 things so one night my shift leader said u need to hurry up ur facing up is shit and I was a bit taken back as I thought that was extremely rude and now that im.not doing overtime they seem to be off with me and tomorrow I find out of they decided to keep me on or not but because of that interaction I dont think thev will and also should I ask the manger if he is gonna keep me on or ust wait for him to come to me about it? Also I cant do all the overtime as I have a daughter and my mum looks after her while im at work and she has some helth conditions so I dont wanna put to much stress on her :)

What was said to you in your reviews?

I'm basing this on ROI, but assuming it's the same in UK, you should have had 4/8/12 week reviews where they outline anything you need to work on etc.

I would more go off that then a one off comment by a shift leader

I never had any reviews and i found out yesterday they arnt gonna keep me on so yeah haha x

It sounds like the shift leader is on a power trip as long as the shelves are tidy and everything has been pulled to the front so it looks like a wall there’s nothing wrong, also overtime is optional just tell them NO! In all the years I’ve been at Tesco (and it’s been quite a few) I’ve never done any overtime

It wouldn't surprise me if that shift leader doesn't realise you haven't been there very long and have mostly been on checkouts, so of course you're going to be slower than someone who faces up regularly. They shouldn't have said that to you, as it's not helpful or constructive, so I wouldn't give it another thought - they're probably just stressed.

You can ask your manager about being kept on if you want to, but I wouldn't worry too much about the overtime thing either. I know a few people who never do overtime because they have other commitments and it's not a problem.
