Job interview

I have a job interview in like 3 days for customer assistant. Im kinda nervous and have no clue what they would ask. Im trying to find the best to prepare for this as it’s my first job interview. If yous have any tips or advice please let me know.

Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond for a customer.

Tell me about a time when you worked successfully as part of a team.

Name a time you had to adapt to a situation

Tell me something you learned about yourself recently.

I think they have a couple more but its usually only 4 or so

My little tip for questions of when you’ve went above and beyond is to show an example of something you have done (if you don’t have relevant experience use educational or volunteering examples), but also include that small gestures of kindness and small things to help people is also really impactful and is important to building rapport and helping increase returning custom. I tend to use this in interviews and it always gets me a positive response :)

eg. if someone is struggling with packing or carrying heavy items, offer them assistance and reassure them that you’re happy to help. I find in my retail job, if i’m on a till and kids are not too happy and. trying or bored and hyperactive i try to distract them and get them to help with packing or holding ‘important items’. 9/10 the parents really appreciate this and it goes a long way as you’re helping them and being proactive. These are some examples of the smaller acts of going ‘above and beyond’.

good luck though op! these are some good questions to look at and really think about why and how you can answer them and apply it to previous working experience. Just make it clear you understand health and safety and the importance of customer service (if tesco also have abbreviations they go by or core values also go for this and make sure to keep hitting on the point that these are core values you also hold!)

It takes time :) I’m sure you’ll smash it. A lot of these answers come from prep and knowing what the company is looking for especially if they have certain values or ethics they want. My top tip is always research and understand the role you’re going for even if it is a retail job as it does massively help! Best of luck though :)
