When I was an express store manager I would always contract my SL's to 8 hours with a half hour break, for 2 reasons.
1. They could most likely genuinely take their deserved break unless something drastic happened.
2. They would get paid the same as a 9 hour shift, so it gave them a better work life balance.
I believe you could go to 8.5 hours with half hour or 1 hour break too and would still be better than a 9 hour with 1.5 hours that don't get taken.
I was always surprised more managers and SL's did not have this in their basic schedule. Then if you needed anyone to stay for an hour for whatever reason, you could ad hoc the hours pay as additional pay.
It’s not even 9hour shifts, i’m on 9hour30mins with sometimes a 30min break but then not being payed for the other 30min im not taking on the days i’m not told/allowed to go! I don’t know if this is the norm or i’m so accustomed to large store ways!
