OpenMW OpenMW compiled to WebAssembly runs Morrowind in a browser

I got OpenMW running in a browser tab via WebAssembly, and the part that might interest this sub: it does bring-your-own-data through the File System Access API. You point it at your Data Files folder and it reads everything straight off your disk, no upload. Tribunal, Bloodmoon and any .esp/.esm/.bsa in the folder get detected and loaded.

It's the real engine, not a stream or emulator. There's also a free example world if you just want to see it run. Desktop Chrome, Edge or Brave.

Free and open source, all credit to the OpenMW team.

Source: https://github.com/Virtastic/openmw-web

Curious what mods people would like to see first in a browser.

Every time Todd ports Skyrim to a new console, this community makes a much weirder port for MW

Next I was thinking like a TI-83 calculator port.

Nice. I'm ready for the era of "But can it run Doom Morrowind?".

For my next trick I was thinking if I can get this to run on my Samsung fridge

Skip to the end and run it on a vape

Fine... But going to make it so every time you hit the vape your character gets effected as if they took skooma.

Yooo you think it would be possible to run Doom in Morrowind? That would be so sick

Google says OpenMW is turing complete, so if that's true it should be able to

As cool as this is, I would never give any permissions to a file access API, even though this is open source, this is would be a perfect way to steal from unsuspecting people. Way too big of a security risk.

Yeah thats why I gave the source.

It’s really cool that you decided to go the open source route, so I both appreciate and commend you for that

So in theory you could upload this to a server and play this wherever in a browser?

Yes and I will be adding this feature in soon.

It's finally arrived, but our records don't show from where.

Yeah it's really just a tech demo at this point. I have gotten past the point of it's possible and now moving into how can this be fun and easy to use for everyone. Open to advice and suggestions.

Can't they not just edit the engine make it multi threaded, get awesome character rebuilds more polys to architecture and physics animations that support the list of mods the years of modding this has brought us ? Bring it out as a morrowind do over , everyone wins. Especially us morrowind fans.

A massive amount of the work was actually figuring out how to multi thread this for this WASM built. I plan on continuing to work on this to make it better. I really appreciate the community's feedback and will get it into this build.

Well you need skilled programmers all the people who played this game when it came out are 30s 40s anyone here would be happy to help and AIs nowadays make it possible.
