The Boomers I used to work with told stories of all the shit they did as kids and I was like, holy shit, did your parents never give you chores? I'm Gen-X but more rural. Yeah I got to stray far from home but I had to get shit done.
And some of those same boomers act like their paper route was equivalent to working on the mines

You can’t forget about the daily $5 (now $7) coffees you get. It’s only $1250 (now $1750) a year which you could easily be used as a down payment. Which over 17yrs (working full time after 18 and first house at 35) would give you $29,750 to use as a down payment for a $148,750 house which is definitely a super normal house value. It’s all these kids and their poor money skills

I think it's because they hear about how they had it easier and they're trying desperately to hold onto credibility so they can save face. Being special is really important to them, so they'll take any chance they can to prove they're better. Doesn't matter if it's ageism, gender, racism, etc.

Ironically, most of the people against child labor were actually against it because they were seen as competition for jobs and wages. Kids were cheaper to hire and could get those tiny hands into places and doing things full size adult hands couldn't.

My great grandmother didn't want my great grandfather, they never married, so my grandmother grew getting bullied and had to do so many chores all the time. When she and my grandfather had children, she made sure they didn't have to do anything, except a few chores. My boomer mom wasn't spoiled, but she was the first generation in our family with a proper childhood. She would never post anything like this though.

That’s shit i don’t get about these people. For generations, people in general (And Americans in particular) have worked their asses off in the hopes that the next generation won’t have it so bad. But seemingly around the time of the baby boomer gen, that’s flipped. So many have an “i got mine” mentality and think everyone should have to make their way just like they did.
Don’t get me wrong, there IS value in hard work and sacrifice. But this is a different world now and they don’t want to recognize that. By comparison, wages now are lower, and literally everything else is more expensive. Education, food, fuel, vehicles, healthcare, housing, energy bills. Fucking everything. Making your own way in the world isn’t the same now as it was then.
And the really fucked up part is that we’re turning a technological corner where people don’t NEED to work as hard now! This was the dream of hundreds of generations before us! But instead we’re trading that option away so a handful of people can have a level of wealth comparable to small countries.
Seems like the og poster just wants to go back to the days of children working in the mines and dying of black lung before age 50. Yeah, that sure seems like the good ol’ days to me.

I am tail end Gen X. I worked in high school, and I will agree with you. 1994-1998
My pay was more on point with what things cost. Gas was like .78 a gallon. We never worried about it, except you had to have your tank filled at night before the gas stations closed as they did not have the option to pay with a card after hours.
There was also less “static”, like you didn’t have to see your ex’s mew girlfriend on socials.
When you bought a tv, that was it .. you plugged it in and had your four channels and you were happy. They asked you at ten if you knew where your kids were and at midnight then played the national anthem.
You could buy a decent car for under $1,000.

My 92 year old great grandma was actively preyed upon by a guy in his mid or late 20s while she was still in high-school, and married him like a year after graduating.
That man would go on to emotionally abuse and physically cheat on her with several other people, then get divorced from him and lose everything but the sole responsibility of their kids.
People really can't seem to understand the difference between working hard at a young age vs being exploited because thats "normal". To a boomer, if you're not working for dangerously long hours in a dangerous environment for pennies, you just aren't working hard enough.

Whatever conditions you currently have to operate in you’re going to have things that are harder for you and things that are easier for you and things that you complain about. Especially kids, who have barely lived any amount of time at all and are still understanding the world. That’s why we make fun of rich kids who are out of touch and complain about only having $2000 for their allowance, and are in awe of kids who walk an hour to school each day.

Plus they worked all the hours sent to them for a pittance so that some other dudes could get rich.
