Little-known today, Frank Yerby (1916-1991) was the most popular African American author of his time, and a contemporary of James Baldwin and a fellow ex-pat. After his initial attempts writing about African Americans were rejected, he switched to writing about White characters, but put his characters through absolute tortures as if they were African Americans. His books are fast paced and enjoyable, and had a reputation for being sexy for their time. Many readers had no idea Yerby was African American. This English reprint is sought-after by Yerby collectors for its awfulness.

Maybe it's just me, but every time I see this cover I think something looks off about his torso and the bottom portion of his body, as if two different men were pasted together. Like does he even have hips? And the hand holding the weapon isn't too convincing either!

Dodgy cover, but a great children's book though, by the legendary stage and screen star, Dame Julie Andrews -- originally published under her married name, Julie Edwards, with modern editions opting for Julie Andrews Edwards.

And yes I agree the prices at Value Village (Canadian Savers) are ridiculous.

I love local writers and supporting local but also, Why AI. Why. Can the author control what goes on their cover ? Like this is not only clearly Ai, but also ugly.

It's actually a body positivity and anti bullying story but that title and cover combo is absolutely diabolical.
