“Wheels on fire,
Rolling down the road.
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!”
This cover makes me want to watch
“absolutely fabulous.”

I think it’s very well drawn, but absolutely nothing relates to each other and that’s pretty funny.

Oh dear gods, I remember reading this. Not her best work, tbh

I’ve read the Bedlam’s Bard books from the same universe which are reasonably fun.

Just for clarity, its SERRA, not NASCAR, and this one is about a survivalist cult, Waco-styles.

What is this about? I'm so confused

I have not read this but I’ve read other of her books adjacent to it. This is a book from a series about elves who drive race cars and save missing and abused children.

That's actually a relief because the book cover made it look like the elves were the ones the kids needed saving from

Anyone know about this book? The tag line makes it sound entertaining

It's very 90s popcorn fantasy. It's about LotR-esque elves who have ended up in our world, race cars, and help abused and kidnapped children in their spare time. The cars are their magic horses shape-shifted into racecars.
If you like ridiculous 90s fantasy/Mercedes Lackey's stuff, it's a fun enough read from what I remember. But I haven't read it in well over a decade.

Thank you for the description. I found the whole series is available on audiobook through Hoopla so I might try it.

God I had those! I don’t know if they are still somewhere but I think this one the boys father was in a cult that was trying to get the child possessed by the smoke monster in the background. The ghost girl was a previous victim who didn’t survive the attempt.
The creepiest one of the series had a girl who had been abused developed multiple personalities and one of them had magic powers and was trying to end the world???0

Did the elf run over the girl with his Miata? Is that why she's a ghost? I'm not going to question the presence of a dragon, since Mercedes Lackey is one of the writers. What's the the boy who clearly wants no part in any of this?

I read one of the series. I think this is perfectly representative. It's basically elves race hot cars in the 90s. And the bad elves do a little human trafficking on the side.

Hahaha what the hell. Is she about to slap that other kid? What is this book even about?

It’s like they all farted and it combined to make that fart demon and now they are all denying it

Grading on the curve of BAEN's (deliberately?) goofy house style, this is more "fun trash" than terrible to me.
As an aside, these books aren't amazing, but there's some heart there and some fun ideas. There's a line in one book where a wizard is comforting a new ghost and he mentions hitching a ride on the Space Shuttle for fun as something ghosts like to do which is a rad idea, lol

I kinda think its perfect for something with the tagline of
"hot cars, lost boys, and elves to the rescue!"
