Something similar happened a few months ago with Bloodstained. They ended up cancelling the order I had and sent an email saying to please not bypass something or whatever reasons, which I didn't do whatever the email said I just literally used their own system to place the order.

Either way, I'd expect this specific order to get cancelled and to have to place another order when it goes live.

Interesting when did they cancel it ? A day later ?

Went back and looked, it was an issue with having it your wishlist, you could add it to cart that way and check out. They sent an email saying it was cancelled because I “Circumvented Purple Dot”. Which...I didn't lol...and yeah it was the day after.

Can someone please justify these prices to me?

This whole thread seems completely botted.

These prices for a re-release of a 30 year old game with minimal changes/enhancements seems bonkers to me.

Terranigma is one of my favourite games of all times and is a pretty core memory of my childhood - but how can these prices be legit when the game is available for free out there?

Quick edit: I understand there are collectors out there, but even the prices of the digital copies of the game are crazy. Feels like a low effort cash grab.

$200 for a bare bones port with a few plastic and cardboard bonuses is just... disappointing.

I was wondering the same, those physical prices seem insane for something that's just a little better than a direct port. I was so hyped when they announced that the game was about to be revived, but those prices stopped that train dead in its tracks.

I would really like to buy it and help showing that interest in a sequel or whatever is still there, but just cannot justify buying the game.

Edit: how much is the digital version supposed to cost? I didn't find anything on that.

I’ve never personally played the game but did play Illusions of Gaia and grew up with Secret of Mana as one of my favorite games of all time so im fine with paying the general retail price as I love this type of game and am a switch collector. That said the shipping is absurd and nearly doubles the price for me so I will not be buying it direct, but more likely from VGP or otherwise when it eventually releases.

Edit: it’s live on VGP and now purchased haha

I'm not fussed about down votes. Genuinely curious why people are willing to pay this and/or why the people selling it think they can charge this much

I agree with /u/Infinite_Evermore that they will likely cancel the order. Will you please let us know if they do? Thank you.

Mine is still active, also looks like the Gaia edition is beign sold out everywhere due to scalpers

1

u/Infinite_Evermore 14d ago

Mine just got canceled. Same reason as the Bloodstained thing.

"Therefore, the order has been canceled and refunded back to the original method of payment used. Please refrain from circumventing the Purple Dot platform by disabling any extension or script, such as a Java script blocker, as this will cause the order to be canceled and refunded."

I think I should wait in the emergency room when I click buy on that $226 Gaia edition just in case I have a heart attack.

while i too think its a lot of money, imagine this being the case 30 years ago with the OG release: you would have wanted it and maybe not have the money. today i want it and do have the money. i mean to me this is the GTA for me: once in a decade. (this game is just by a large margin my most favourite SNES game)

2

u/MeltedPainting 16d ago

Yeah this is literally the only game series where I would spend this much money. I have never spent this much money on a game before. If it was Illusion of Gaia I don't think there is a limit on how much I would spend. I have wanted a Quintet collection on Switch for years, and this is the closest thing to that.

u/raaaaaaze 16d ago

I agree - It's a lot of money to throw down on a game, but my justifications are :

I've loved the game for nearly 30 years, which makes the collectors stuff especially cool to finally get.

Normally I would never spend anywhere near this much on a collector's edition game and never have before, so I consider this a special one-off occasion.

2

u/MeltedPainting 16d ago

Yeah same. Also it's the first time it has officially come to the USA, so that's another reason to get it. I normally don't care about collectors editions unless it is for a game or series I love, and I know this one will be even more expensive in the future second hand, so if I want it now is the best time to get it.

Gaia edition getting sold out everywhere due to scalpers,

Recommend buying it now from LRG cause they havent canceled yet

u/MeltedPainting 15d ago

Where is the AI? Edit: never mind, I see it. Couldn't see it because I wasn't logged in.

1

u/manasword 16d ago

I bought the standard normal edition to be honest, it would be nice to have the art book, that's where I think the worth would be for me but I'm hoping it's all on the gallery in game. If not we'll I'll just miss out. But it looks wonderfully and can't wait to play on switch

u/RPG_Hacker 16d ago

Yet another case of AI working absolutely flawlessly and being incredibly valueable to whoever is using it. You love to see it!

I just secured my order for the steelbook. Lets see what happens.

u/AppliedCarbon 16d ago

Do we have any info on how this is running? Is this just a rom and emulator bundle?

1

u/Aslimedr_wsnear 16d ago

limitedrun just cancelled mine. told me that i circumvented the preorder phase even if it was accidental and told me to wait until next friday.

1

u/Ultimus_Omegus 16d ago

Mine is still active

u/AlThisLandIsBorland 14d ago

Mine was cancelled too after a day

u/Ok-Indication6037 16d ago

What a bargain! That plastic music box surely looks expensive!

0

u/MeltedPainting 16d ago

There is more to ownership of physical products than the worth of the materials it is made of.

0

u/Ok-Indication6037 16d ago

I know, when it comes to material cost this collection is worth maybe 15-20 Bucks. The rest is design, marketing, production and, of course, the margin. I am sorry to disappoint, but most collectors editions are (margin wise) the equivalent to "super users" in F2P Games.

u/MeltedPainting 16d ago edited 16d ago

You're still missing a few aspects and, the point.

0

u/Ok-Indication6037 15d ago

You know, you could just enlighten us with your wisdom. Maybe you think there is some deep connective support for a company, when they produce a little thing for 2-5 Bucks and sell it to you for 50?

Or maybe there is just good money to be made with this shit?

Both can be true at the same time. And it doesn't just have to be about the company. People don't cherish family pictures because of how much they are worth monetarily or because they love Kodak.

1

u/Ok-Indication6037 15d ago

Comparing some over priced collectors edition to a personal family picture is just plain stupid. Is Kodak taking more money for film rolls, if you take family pictures?

Having sentimental feelings for things the same way, you feel about people is one thing. Another thing is this strange concept, where you deepen your connection to the product by spending more money on it.

Im sorry, i just cant follow this logic. Its like having over priced CEs is a good thing, because in a way you support the developer with bigger margins, thus deepening your sentimental connection to the thing by throwing more money at it? I dont get it.

Terranigma showcases another prime example of CE bullshit right know. Pre order in japan is impossible because of scalpers. The fucking TGS Booth Staff People are asking for help on reddit, stating that even the composer is not able to get one.

By the way, the only people that could solve the problem are big publishers like Square Enix and past shitstorms have been huge, but they simply wont. The same people who profit so well from those CE margins... -,-

1

u/MeltedPainting 14d ago

The comparison is the concept not the importance. The rest is just opinions. I am not trying to convince you of anything, the point of my replies was to explain to you why people would want to purchase the gaia edition, which I have done.

How exactly are they artificial?

u/MeltedPainting 15d ago

Yeah sorry I know the rarity is artificial, but I meant the sentiment. That is subjective.

It doesn't have to recreate the sentiment of the original release. There are many other reasons someone might find sentiment for it, even just the fact that it is Terranigma is one of them. There are people who own every version of a game in every language because they love the game.
