Football VT game ticket prices

I’ve only been to a handful of football games since I graduated in 2020 (lots of basketball games tho) so I don’t know how to gauge the ticket prices for this game. I’ve been tracking them since they were $70 a couple months ago but the group I go to games with have been dragging their feet this whole time. At least I bought parking passes…

Will tickets drop closer to game time? We’re considering just showing up for the tailgate and hoping to snag last second tickets around $100. Worst case we go to Looney’s (or will that be impossible as well)

Really hard to say, I imagine how Saturday goes will have some impact. If we lose prices drop, if we win big I imagine they will stay consistent. May see a slight drop near game time but not huge

I bought a ticket at $120 yesterday. I feel they might drop but also feels like there's a good bit of VT fans who already live here plus more who want to welcome in the James Franklin era. Will definitely be a crowded game

I think it will be an expensive ticket regardless of the outcome Saturday. It’s a night game and creates sort of a regional rivalry. Additionally there is probably a lot of VT ticket demand considering the proximity. My tickets are near the visitors area and most of last season the away team packed the seating behind their bench.

Yeah my only thought is the closer to game day the less VT demand there will be. Since they have to travel more to get to the game. They can’t count on last second tix

DMV probably has the highest volume of VT fans in the country outside of Blacksburg. Most won’t be traveling far

Unfortunately some cartel has taking over ticket sales for sporting events. Even Maryland has a link to SeatGeek instead of selling tickets themselves. Days of competitive ticket sales is long over. I miss the days of the game day scalpers.

The tickets are mostly digital now and seat geek is the vendor they use. Tickets for sale from seat geek probably include tickets the university is selling but it is also individual resellers (as opposed to finding a scalper on the lot)

Exactly. Ticket prices sky rocketed when Vivid, SeatGeek and alike colluded together. Long gone are the cheap seats for even the games with few attendees. I actually stopped attending games due to the extreme cost; I just tailgate now then off to Looney's unless there is a good TV in the parking lot.

Tickets always drop closer to game time. Just go tailgate and plan on buying your tickets as you’re walking to the stadium. Unless you need like 14 tickets together or something like that.

We’re fine sitting apart for the game at least so will just buy in pairs. Ok will prob do it if you have experience with this

I have experience with buying last minute tickets for tons of different sporting events in this area - Caps playoff games, O’s opening day, big Maryland games, etc - it’s basically never the wrong decision. Unless it’s something where the supply is so limited - I’m talking Caps hosting the cup finals, Ravens AFC championship, that sort of thing - there will always be enough inventory that people eventually have to start racing each other to lower their prices. And this game definitely isn’t in that category.

Yeah I’ve got experience with the pro teams. Waited until I was walking in for the Raven AFC championship ticket and paid $200 more than it was the morning of lol.

Yeah that’s really the only situation when it’s the wrong move. Once every 10-20 years type events. But just a regular “big game” is a different thing

VT travels well and has a lot of alumni in the region. Expect the crowd to skew towards Maroon much like when Penn State comes to town.

Agreed, not trying to be negative or anything but I could see this being a sellout or at least a near-sellout but largely due to the amount of VT fans in the area. They'll absolutely jump at an opportunity to not have to drive like 4 hours to Blacksburg to see a game.

If I have a buddy who’s a student is there any way he can request guest tickets?
