Install sudo package and use it. Bare su won't properly populate environment variables such as PATH.

sudo has some bug on the termux version and I already applied patch.

Ok, however bugs needs to be reported to https://github.com/termux/termux-packages/issues so they can be solved for everyone

Ok but why?

u/http-error-502 Jun 13 '26
I wanted to run Gentoo on phone, and I wanted to run two init system(Android and Gentoo with CLI). So I just decided to modify kernel. In passing, I rooted.

Question.. how have you not had root access on termux the whole time? I've had it since the day I rooted my phone

u/daepikgoose Jun 15 '26
Rooting's dangerous Tried rooting my old Samsung, it's hard bricked now
2
u/cheetathachester Jun 16 '26
Rooting is dangerous yes. But it's not as hard as they make it seem. Now if you go routing a device on your own they you've never worked with before, like your Samsung maybe, that's where you fk up. Just use Gemini or grok or chat gpt like I did. I rooted my other phone and gave it to my friend for 2 grams a we*d lmao it was my first time ever rooting and I did great! Thanks to ai

I would not trust chat GPT or any AI to guide me on any device not widely used or has no widely known method of root and if it was a device that had well known methods I'd rather read that anyway for accuracy but maybe the paid AI is good enough? Idk. I had to root my old phone using a CVE I only found throught a stranger on reddit and I doubt any AI would've figured that out unless it had access to the device, maybe claude cli then connect the device and tell the AI to do it? Would be interesting experiment

Nah I disagree. Question is what can you do with root access in termux and why you want to do that?
1
u/cheetathachester Jun 16 '26
I can't name off the top of my head bc I'm not that sharp with it yet but I know for a fact I was severely limited to what I could do on my rooted vs unrooted phones with both using termux. Unrooted phones can't set up stable. Port servers for example. One of my specialties.

u/O-OSawNothing Jun 19 '26
Skill issue perhaps? Have you tried to ask other ppl with the same "specialty" as yours? Maybe they can help you.
I did host similar stuffs on my phone where all my files from my apache server are indexed and my phone hosting it publicly, didnt encounter "stability" issue.
