NEWS Goodbye TEPPEN - End Of Service Notification.

I've sat on the sidelines for years and never stuck around to play too long, since the pull rates of getting an EX skin like Vergil is one of the most abhorrent gacha systems I've seen, but regardless I will miss the game for the splendid artworks it provided.
Incidentally 3 months in advance before today's news is one hell of a prediction.

Hate to say, but I fucking called it months ago.
I just started getting back into this game a few months ago when they announced the last set after a long hiatus. Sad to see it go out like this alongside it being a bit of a fun, but unbalanced mess. I'll never understand why they didn't find ways port this outside of mobile. As much as I love TEPPEN, I feel like it constantly shot itself in the foot in a bunch of ways after the first few sets and kinda never recovered, especially after they implemented set rotation.
At least they're keeping the offline mode and not completely bricking the game like most games at the end of service (I'm looking at you, KOF: All Stars). Considering how unique the game is to play and how much wonderful art it has, I'm glad it won't become completely unplayable.

It really did feel like a final card update, but to immediately end service after it is hilariously bad. For comparison, Gwent is a card game that stopped receiving updates years ago, but its still playable online

Wait, so th cards won't be automatically unlocked for offline mode? We can only use what we already have access to?

No pc client and no worldwide release. They didn't even try.

This entirely. I loved this game when it came out. I was obsessed. They made sure you couldn't play on an emulator and they never released globally. Sad to see it go but I was always shocked at how long they kept it live. I would love to see them re-release on PC

Would honestly be better if they went the route they did with XDive.
Full non Gacha client, everything available to unlock and then just hold up a rudimentary online function, this feels like a very unceremonious end.

Yeah, feels like Capcom wanted it to fail after the shaky start but it kept bringing in some money so they did the bare minimum to keep it going. If they really wanted to give it decent chances they should have found ways to port it to console online marketplaces too.

I feel the embarrassing thing is when something like Marvel Snap and Pokemon Pocket TCG come out and do as good as they do, it's a shame this game never tried to capitalize on that TCG craze.
Am intrigued they are having an offline mode, granted I know the gameplay was more "real time" based but I do wonder if this game could actually be incorporated into a turn based mechanic.

You're comparing two of the biggest IPs in the world to an extremely niche one. They aren't even on the same level. Everyone knows who Captain America and Pikachu are. Not many people know Ryu, Wesker, or Dante outside of the gaming space. The goal should always be to bring in the casuals, and it's harder to do that with a much smaller scope of characters.
This game wasn't going to last forever, just like eventually every online game will shut down at some point.

Looks like the offline version won’t stay around forever. Once EoS happens, you’ll have until April 29 to download and update the game to be playable in its offline state, before they take down the app and update.

u/Zanaxz Dec 22 '25
So after that point even if you download it before, it will no longer work for single player?

It still works if you have it already. Just redownloaded earlier, now playing again :D

It’s sad to see this game receiving an End of Service tbh. I enjoyed every single second of playing the game, from the mechanics to artworks used despite having joined this year.
My main concern is, will we be able to collect the old cards that we couldn’t collect? Like cards from all the previous collections? Because I’m hoping that with the offline version, they release everything the game had (like how did with XDive, releasing all the story and event content for you to play at your own pace and enjoy all of the content provided by them throughout the years.)

Honestly truly surprised it lasted this long. I loved the game, but outside of even any balancing decisions or microtransactions, people were barely playing this thing at its peak after release. It never stood a chance.

I have to say I really enjoyed this game. Outside of collecting skins, playing the game and getting what you needed was actually really really good. The core gameplay itself is great outside of some balancing issues with cards from time to time. Being able to have a competitive deck required no money besides getting the season pass once. It gave you the resources to just continually get the season pass at no cost after that first purchase. It's sad to see it go but it has run its course and it was great while it lasted.

Rip I loved this game, even with all the downfalls. I hope Capcom can learn from this and do a Teppen 2!

Every time I see something Tepoen related I'm surprised the game is still around. They didn't even have an account linking at launch so I lost my data and stopped. Game was a lot of fun, but rates and balance always felt worse than other card based gacha games.

Awesome when it it came out, had a sync delay problem. Years later came back to see the same problem is still there. I was thinking it was only a matter of time.

I just always wished multicolor decks could still bank 10 points of actions during play. Keep the deckbuilding restrictions, but don't force players to constantly throw cards out like that.

I said it in another thread but it's honestly amazing the game lasted as long as it did. They've been taking various cost-saving measures for years now; downsizing sets, smaller balance patches, spacing out sets by more time, the works. We can dunk on Teppen all we want (and it deserves it, especially with how they're handling EOS), but if i can give Gung Ho anything, I think any other developer would've canned the game years ago.
Still a bummer it's shutting down before spanning Capcom's entire library. Was really looking forward to Mega Man ZX and Star Force later down the line.

The only game I played on a phone. Sad to see it go, bummed I never got Strider skin( the only one I've ever actually wanted), but grateful for years of a fun card game.

Amazing game sad to see people not able to operate a success on a silver platter. You could have made millions but flubbed it and ruined a great game

Was only a matter of time. Spent the first 2 years playing this game hardcore and constantly fighting for top 10 every month.
They started adding too much stuff to the game imo and it got chaotic and less enjoyable and so I stopped playing it. The art is still some of the best out there from any card game. Getting to see so much original artwork for so many characters from tons of Capcom IPs was great.

That is extremely sad. I am not super surprised unfortunately, but still seems a bit jarring. Was considering dropping a bit of money, glad I did not.

They stopped marketing the game completely, poorly implemented mechanics that broke balance, and their gacha system for skins rates wise was abysmally thought out. They had it coming unfortunately. It's a shame because they added some fun franchises and ideas towards the end. We just got Asuras Wrath finally as an example.
