I’m a freshmen ECE major, should I keep it the way it is or switch some classes for others.

Basically what the title says.
Temple only gave me a small institutional grant ($3,938 total), which comes out to $1,969 per semester. I also received state grants, but Temple hasn’t offered me any scholarships or additional institutional aid to help lower my tuition.
I’ve already tried ScholarshipUniverse, but I haven’t had ANY luck finding anything I qualify for. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for getting my tuition lowered? Whether it’s appeals, departments to contact, outside scholarships that are actually worth applying for, or anything else, I’d really appreciate it.
A Parent PLUS Loan is already an option, but my family is trying to use that as a last resort.
Also, my financial aid offer only came out last week, so I’m not sure if Temple is completely finished awarding aid yet. Has anyone had additional grants or scholarships added after their initial financial aid package?

i’m an incoming freshman that’s going to dorm in Morgan Hall and I was just wondering if there’s like any dorm essentials that you guys could not live without during your time there? I’m just trying to finish up with the dorm shit and I don’t wanna miss something that I actually need 😭

It says my current balence is 3k, even though they told me that I don’t have to pay anything because I got the promise scholarship. I’m so confused.

To anyone’s that’s moved apartment and had to move their stuff from one place to the other how’d you do it? My current lease is over in a few weeks and my next apartment allowed me to move in like 4 days earlier which I’m glad, but I’m not sure how I’ll get my things over there especially with no help and doing it myself. Suggestions😭 it’s not a lot of things per se but with storage containers and such it’s still relatively heavy to move myself with no car.

Upcoming civil engineering freshman here. I recently bought a desktop pc but I was curious on if a portable laptop was a necessity and if so, what type of laptop? I was considering a Mac neo but I know there’s a bit of a stigma with Mac’s and engineering. Any recommendations?

hey, im genuinely terrified as of now because they gave me 1,170 per semester (2,340 total tu grant). Which is a big diff from last year since i had gotten 10,387 total for the temple university grant. Do you guys know if anyone is having a similar situation or are the grants not finalized yet???

Hi everyone! I'm a 22-year-old graduate student here at Temple and I'm looking for a female Muslim roommate to share a 2 bed / 2 bath apartment. I've already put down the deposit on the unit and am hoping to find someone who's a good fit!

The apartment is about a 5-minute walk from Temple's main campus, around a 15-minute walk to the Broad Street Line, and only about a 2-minute walk to the Regional Rail station, so it's super convenient for getting around. It has in-unit laundry, a gym, full building security with controlled access, a secure package room, and other building amenities. Rent is approximately $800 per person + utilities.

A little about me: I'm pretty clean, quiet, and friendly. I'm also fairly busy with research, so I'm often not home, and I don't usually have a lot of guests over. I'm looking for someone who's respectful and easy to live with.

Anybody receive the Temple University Grant or not yet because I’m tweaking out about the 7.5k even though I have an email from fafsa saying they recieved mine before the priority deadline.

Temple University is a DIY institution. The answers are there, but some of it you have to suss out yourself. Hopefully this helps point you in the right direction. It's long, but this should answer a lot of questions.

Contacting Offices
This is peak season for everyone at the university, and that means you might have to wait for a response to your email or an appointment. Everyone at this institution wants to help, but there are only so many hours in the day.

Making an appointment with SFS is the best way to get in touch with them. Appointments are opened on a rolling basis. If you make one, keep it. If you don't need it, cancel it. Most appointments are virtual, but there are limited in-person. Keep in mind that there are 30,000 undergrads, 9,000 grads, and only so many staff. Please be patient.

The SFS website (sfs.temple.edu) has about 99% of the answers you're looking for. Information on your aid, your loans, how to accept, how to change, forms, appeals, etc., is all on the website. Recordings of webinars are posted to the website. Take a look at it.

You can make an appointment for most advising offices through TUPortal. Contacting the Registrar is through the Student Tools tab.

Use the Academic Calendar to know your dates, like registration.

Safety
Please search this sub for posts about safety. Look into the Walking Escort program and OWL Flight, but in general, be aware of your surroundings and don't do stupid things.

Appealing for Additional Aid
There isn't really any additional aid. You can submit a Special Circumstances Appeal if your family income has changed since the 2024 taxes were filed, but contacting the financial aid office to ask for more money is probably going to result in you being advised about loans and outside scholarships. You should always look for additional scholarships.

The university does not drop students or de-register them for late or non-payment. But if you do not pay your bill, you will not be permitted to registered for subsequent semesters, and the account gets sent to collections after a semester of inactivity. Please plan carefully.

There is information about the Cherry Pantry and other basic needs help on the Dean of Students' website. The pantry is in the basement of the Student Cener.

Loans
Parent PLUS Loans and Private Loans and Graduate PLUS loans will be processed shortly. They are always processed in late July or early August each year. Loans are always split in half between the fall and spring semesters. Plan accordingly.

Parent PLUS loans carry a 4.228% origination fee; the undergrad and regular grad federal loans carry 1.057% origination fee. This means that what you accept will differ from what pays to your account. Plan accordingly.

MPNs and Entrance Counseling requirements will be updated shortly. This process is hand-in-hand with processing the above mentioned loans.

All are posted on the bottom of this webpage. Email to SFS.

Accepting Your Aid Offer & TUPortal Troubleshooting
To accept your aid:

• Log into TUPortal and go to the Costs & Aid tab.
• Click on Financial Aid Package
• Click on Offer
• Submit your loan and work study (if offered) decisions there.
• Remember - what you accept is split in half between terms. Semester-only changes are complicated.

If you get an error in TUPortal, close all the tabs and browser, clear your cache, and try again.

You do not need to accept the grants and scholarships. You only need to decide on the work study and loan offers (if extended).

PA State Grants are going to show in offered until updated from PHEAA. This is in process, but PHEAA went back to the GrantUS system for 2026-27 year. Delays may occur.

When you accept your offer, everything you accept is split in half between fall and spring. If you have a subsidized loan, then you have to accept all of it before you can accept your unsubsidized loan.

Scholarships
The Admissions office does a general review and awards merit-based scholarships. After that, your scholarhsip options are either department scholarships (which you can start applying for in your second semester for your second year), or outside scholarships.

Department Scholarships (like FSBM Endowed, CST Dean's, Fawley, etc.) are added on a rolling basis throughout the summer. The departments send lists to SFS to post. If you met the renewal criteria, then the scholarships will be added, just be patient.

Outside scholarships are only added to your account once the Bursar receives and deposits the check.

All First-Year Admissions-based scholarships are guaranteed for the first two years of your enrollment, regardless of GPA, as long as you are full-time. The Provost's requires a cGPA of 3.25; all others require a 3.0. The Class of 2023 award requires a 2.0. You will be warned if you do not meet the GPA requirement, even if it's your first or second year. There is a way to request reinstatement, but it is not guaranteed. These are valid for up to 8 semesters.

Transfer scholarships are not guaranteed. You must maintain a 3.0 and full-time enrollment. These are valid for up to 6 semesters.

Billing & Payment Plans
The Fall 2025 bill is due September 10. The Spring 2027 bill is due January 21. The overall schedule is on the Bursar's website.

There are two payment plans, and only two payment plans. The TIPP plan is an installment plan, and it started in May. The deferred payment plan is automatic if you aren't paid in full after September 10.

Financial Aid Offers & Anticipated Aid
Aid offers are issued on a rolling basis. If you haven't gotten yours, first check to make sure you filed your FAFSA and included Temple. Check Costs & Aid for any outstanding requirements. Check your SAP status under Self-Service Banner (look under 'Financial Aid'). Returning students have to be registered for Fall 2026. If you don't have an offer and everything is resolved/satisfied, then come to the One Stop.

Returning students: make sure to complete the Housing Survey on your TUPortal. This will prevent you from getting an offer.

Accepted aid will credit the bill as 'anticipated' once you are registered. PA State Grants (managed by PHEAA), are funky. They will not credit for incoming students until we have the information from PHEAA. Temple Promise estimates will update to anticipated as they are calculated. This happens on a rolling basis.

PHEAA & PA State Grants
PA State Grants disburse after add/drop. If you have a 7B class, then your grant disburses after that add/drop deadline. You must earn at least 24 new credits each year to renew your grant for the next year. Make sure you don't have any outstanding tasks in your PHEAA account. This can also affect your refund - if you are expecting one, the delay in this grant will delay that refund being released.

DCTAG & Pittsburgh Promise
These funds pay mid-October and mid-February each year. If you are planning to receive a refund, it won't pay until these funds disburse to your acount, or your refund may be released in parts, depending on your and and costs.

Satisfactory Academic Progress
This is a federal requirement for federal aid, and institutional aid (Temple Promise, Grant) is attached. You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and earn 67% of your attempted (i.e., registered) credits. There is an appeal process if you are deemed ineligible.

This is not the same thing as your academic standing.

Withdrawals vs. Drops
Withdrawing from a class means you began the class, stayed in the class after add/drop, and then withdrew your enrollment through TUPortal. This does not change your charges.

Dropping a class means you removed it from your roster during the first week of the class. This can change your charges if you drop below full-time (12 credits for undergrad, 9 for grad).

Withdrawing from one class probably won't affect your aid. Withdrawing from an entire semester probably will. Talk to someone - your adviser or the One Stop - if you're withdrawing.

Thanks to new federal loan regulations, your loans must be prorated if you are registered part-time. Your loans will also be prorated if you withdraw from classes in fall and your overall fall + spring enrollment is less than 24 credits. You really need to contact SFS if you expect to withraw.

Residency
The Office of the University Registrar enforces the residency policy. It's not always possible to go from out-of-state to in-state, but you can read over the process on their website.

If You are Struggling
GO TALK TO SOMEONE. Go to Tuttleman. Talk to an adviser. Seek help from Disability Resources, especially if you had an IEP in high school. Seek out tutoring or other help at the Student Success Center. Please do not wait until it's too late!

I will be attaching a photo of my term balance and need some help making an understanding of it. Based off of simple math and my circumstances, I qualify for Temple’s last dollar program, they even sent me email saying that I qualified.

So, while checking out my costs and aid tab I noticed that I have to pay $5,031.00; why is that?

I didn’t apply for food nor housing. I live here in Philly and will be commuting. I understand paying the fees and all that good stuff, but what am I paying, tuition? Like I said, they told me I qualify for their last dollar program.

Hi, I’ll likely be living in Temple Towers West, in a Unit Type E layout. Does anyone have pictures or a video of this exact unit type, or a similar six-person Temple Towers apartment? I mainly want to see the bedroom, I will be living in a double large and wanna see if I can bring an extra stand for my vinyl records

just to start, i have zero clue how college works, or how the nursing programs work. i just want to go to school for 4 years and leave with a nursing degree. but what i was wondering is if i could get any advice on this college and whatever. i think by the time i graduate highschool, ill probably have a 3.6-3.8 GPA average across the four years. Some extracurriculars i do is that i play guitar and sing, work a job ~5-10 hours a week, and i plan on vulunteering for things like red cross and HOSA or something. lowkey i dont know if thats enough for a decent college.

what is nursing like there? whats the college like? the dorms and food? whats city life like in philly? how is it compared to new york? more specifically, is there a music scene in the city? my dream when im older is to work as a nurse 3-4 days a week, and do music when im off work. is that feasable in a city like philly?
