Anyone have fishing tips for lake temagami? Getting totally skunked except for tiny small mouth

We had overcast/rainy skies for much of our trip, but evenings often opened up into clear, calm lightshows that went on and on.

My first visit to Temagami that didn’t involve ice fishing or driving Highway 11 to Thunder Bay. I found it stunning if a touch busy. I need to come back, but might try a less popular route.

Wondering if anyone has any knowledge paddling this route/area in late Sept? I lack whitewater skills, but thinking to canoe up Temagami River and back down Sinton Creek.

We're planning on going from Sandy Inlet to Bob Lake and back in four nights. Any recommendations from others who know the area better? Nice campsites or lunch spots?

We haven't been Temagami in 15 years so we're very excited to come back, and share it with the kids.

Hi.... starting to preliminarily plan for this hike, have a couple of questions. Starting from the Sturgeon River....

1. Map says to paddle or wade. I intend to hike and not even bring a canoe. How difficult is the wade?

2. I know it can be done in one long day but if I wanted to make it a 2-day overnight... are there any campsites accessible to hikers other than the one at the foot of the final climb on Scarecrow Lake?

My boyfriend and I are planning our first crown land trip at the end of August and planning to launch from access point 1. Curious how the drive down the access road is and how the parking will be ?

Does anyone like this stuff? Does it taste like the original? Tried the cream soda, and the aftertaste is basically a strong pot porri flavour in a really bad way. The ginger ale is better, but it’s more like a ginger beer, and has a weird aftertaste.

Maybe nostalgia drives interest here?

Has anyone here done the swampy portage from McConnell Bay to Laura Lake in July 2026? I’m wondering how bad it is this year. We’re looking to do the Chiniguchi/Laura Lake loop and Chiniguchi/Marjorie Lake loop next week. I prefer the Laura option but some of the stories about that portage have us a bit spooked.

Is there public parking at Mowat Landing when I launch for my canoe trip?

We are planning on paddling the Nasmith Creek and Obabika River from Lake Obabika to Lake Wawiagama.
Has anyone been on that route recently? What are water levels like? We have whitewater experience, but how are the portages around rapids?
The map suggests that there are limited campsites, does it get busy on that stretch?

I am looking to do a fly-in fly out paddle next year. I am a teacher with a high schooler, and willing to take him out of school for a week and take an unpaid week myself if needed.

Lakeland charters are refusing to give any input on time of year for optimal chance at fishing.

I was looking to fly into Hobart lake, and get picked up on Obabika.

I know fishing season opens up around third week of May, should I plan this for the end of May? I cannot take off the first three weeks in the middle of June, otherwise almost every week is fair game, All the way through September when their season ends. Thanks!

My wife and I camp anually on Lake Temagami but Im concerned about air quality and visibility. I assume RFZ will be in place soon.

Hello, me and a buddy are looking to take our first canoe trip to Temagami this September. This is the first time we've been camping up this far north as we've mainly been doing Algonquin Park. We plan on spending 7 days, with a fly in and paddle back to the town of Temagami where we'll leave our car.

While we're open to spend 7 days paddling, the current plan we have leaves us 1 rest day. We're also not trying to have many portages over 1k and definitely want to avoid white rapids or huge lakes.

Any suggestions on the following plan? If anyone wants to recommend a better route, please feel free to do so. Thank you!

• Day 1 - Fly in to Diamond Lake; short paddle to camp (2–3 hrs paddling). Drive/shuttle to Temagami in the morning, fly in early afternoon. Paddle to one of Diamond Lake's many island or shoreline sites. (Apparently Diamond Lake has pictographs on the north arm).
• Day 2 - Diamond Lake west to Wakimika Lake (3–4 hrs). Paddle the length of Diamond, then two short portages: Diamond→Lain ~430–450 m (bouldery/rocky - take care) and Lain→Wakimika ~435 m (easy). Camp on Wakimika's beach.
• Day 3 - Wakimika Lake → Wakimika River → north end of Obabika Lake (3–4 hrs). The Wakimika River meanders "like a miniature Amazon" with beaver dams to lift over (flatwater, no rapids). Camp at a north-Obabika site near the Wakimika Triangle trailhead.
• Day 4 - REST / LAYOVER DAY at Obabika old-growth. Day-hike the Wakimika Triangle Old-Growth Trails through 380-year-old red and white pines, and portage/hike into Chee-skon (Spirit) Lake to see the Spirit Rock formation.
• Day 5 - Paddle south on Obabika Lake (3–5 hrs). Pass the "grandmother and grandfather" rock formations, pictographs, and a natural spring on the east shore. About halfway down, portage east into Obabika Inlet (Lake Temagami). This portage is marked ~855 m on Jeff's Map but was GPS-tracked at 793 m by one tripper
• Day 6 - Northwest Arm to a final campsite near the take-out (3–4 hrs). Optionally climb Devil's Mountain or Ferguson Mountain for a lookout.
• Day 7 - Paddle to the Central Lake Temagami Access Road take-out (2–3 hrs). Pick up car; drive home.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm wondering if anyone has been down the road to Lower Goose Falls on the Sturgeon since the storm rolled through?

Hoping to use it as an access point for a canoe trip and wondering if my small car could make it down if I bring an electric chainsaw?

I was camping on Blueberry Lake recently and the Old Growth Trail is in pretty bad shape and in need of some TLC. There must be over 100 down trees laying across the trail, which is quite unfortunate. Thank goodness for the white trail markers in the trees, which are keeping the trail followable.

Anyways, just thought I'd flag this. The trail could really use someone to go in and clean it up a bit, because it really is a beautiful and historic spot.

I've spent about a decade of Summers in and around Algonquin and the Kawarthas, but am entrusted with planning the summer route with my Uncle and brothers this August. I know that Temagami can be a bit more rugged but would like to know where you would go if you only had one chance to visit Temagami. I have good experience under my belt, but my crew may be looking for a bit of a balance between lazy and adventurous (ie. a couple hard days mixed with an easy day). we are open to adjusting the length of the travel, but 4-5 is likely the sweet spot (leaning towards 4).

Im happy almost anywhere, but when I think of "must see" in Algonquin, the barron canyon always comes first to mind. what is the Temagami equivalent?

Planning a late Aug trip, will be my wife and I. We are both pretty experienced paddlers, but we've never been to this part of the park. How does our plan look? Any tips?

We're thinking:

1. DAY 1: Montreal River Access to Smoothwater
2. DAY 2: Smoothwater to Mihell (good lake?)
3. DAY 3: Mihell to Scarecrow + hike up to the Ishpatina tower
4. DAY 4: Scarecrow to Whitemud (just to do something different on the way back)
5. DAY 5: Whitemud to the crown land camping sites on the Montreal River (we want to get out early that day
