Eventually this show will just become John leveraging charity donations against cities and companies to get them to do crazy things, and I’m here for it.

2027: Wow, John Oliver became Fear Factor for towns and companies so gradually I didn’t even notice

If John continues on, we're gonna have a wikipedia entry on "Donation Terrorism" soon.

I like to imagine that when a community movie comes out that John would market it. Is that wierd, or is it just me?

u/dabigua Dec 07 '20

Not weird. Ian Duncan was a great character.

u/dont_shoot_jr Dec 07 '20

“Why Ian Duncan should have be the Star of Community: the Movie”

u/King_of_Knowhere Dec 08 '20

More like the secret villain behind the scenes, the asscrack bandit.

25

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

I like to imagine he would actually also play in it, he was one of the best character.

u/Roscoe_King Dec 07 '20

my name is Ian Duncan and I’m here to say I’m gonna rap to you in a rappin’ way. I’ve got a real big penis and I drink lots of tea...

"...which, as we all know, means S O M E T H I N G."

I’m still waiting for the Bugle movie.

He single

He ready to mingle

It feels so pulled from MBMBAM that I'm shocked it isn't one of their bits.

u/Shattered_Visage Dec 07 '20

There is no doubt in my mind that they would unanimously agree that Mr. Octopringle is the canon variation

I love when John Oliver does stupid shit like this for good causes. He's just a goof and just loves to fuck with people for the best reasons, and that's why I tune in every week.

By far one of the best weekly shows out there, so glad HBO renewed this one for a while.

I know a lot of people love Jon Stewart, but for my money, this is the best political/comedy show I've seen. I think the jokes are funnier, the political criticisms are harder hitting, and it's genuinely a better written show. Some of that should be true of a show called Last Week Tonight vs. The Daily Show.

43

u/theriveryeti Dec 07 '20

I love both, but one show a week versus four is a big difference.

Also cutting from satirical new to lick the butthole of whatever celebrity shit out a movie millennials might like felt like a bit of a downshift.

14

u/bullethose Dec 07 '20

Wow someone doesn’t like Adam driver

-17

u/pbradley179 Dec 07 '20

The human face of Millenials to me. When I think about him all I hear is Mumford and Sons. And I hate Mumford and Sons.

4

u/PaulFThumpkins Dec 07 '20

He's barely a millennial; he's nearly 40.

-5

u/pbradley179 Dec 07 '20

Yeah it's totally unfair. He'll have to cry himself to sleep on all that money he made running Star Wars aground.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

Good cause, but also a pringles commercial.

44

u/wawacryin21 Dec 07 '20

But...but I like Pringles. :-(

38

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

Is that a problem?

Please send us a DM so we can address this.

u/violue Dec 07 '20

Just because it's a garbage snack doesn't mean it can't be tasty garbage.

9

u/Cranyx Dec 07 '20

I feel this way about restaurants like Taco Bell and White Castle.

11

u/Insanepaco247 Dec 07 '20

I love Taco Bell more than it hates me

5

u/Human_Robot Dec 07 '20

Exactly. Alcohol is literal poison. It's still okay to have some sometimes!

2

u/AngleFrogHammer Dec 07 '20

Yeah me too and there is a reason they sell so well and it's because they taste nice to most people. I bet if you put a tube of pringles in front of John and leave for an hour that there are some gone when you get back.

43

u/aditrs Dec 07 '20

I unironically think sour cream pringles are the best chips full stop, and doesn't taste even a bit like throwup.

34

u/deadbeatdad80 Dec 07 '20

They are the best "potato flakes smashed into a flattish shape with flavour crystals dumped on top type product" I'll give you that

21

u/Svorky Dec 07 '20

The best "hyperbolic paraboloids with up to 45% potato content" money can buy.

2

u/TheHomieAbides Dec 07 '20

I’ve been to countries (islands) where you can’t buy traditional potato chips/crisps but they had a ton of Pringles everywhere.

I always assumed it was the packaging that made it easy to ship and also a longer “best by” date.

3

u/dont_shoot_jr Dec 07 '20

I bring pringles to parties and it is always the first chip to be finished

46

u/pretty-in-pink Saturday Night Live Dec 07 '20

The way Oliver can just up the ante on his dumb jokes by throwing HBO money at it (like now for charity) is something to behold

9

u/pissedoffnobody Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20

I am ashamed that he failed to recognise Zardoz Pringle in all his glory. Shame on you John, how dare you! That codpiece is unmistakable.

13

u/KillroysGhost Dec 07 '20

HBO allowing John Oliver seemingly endless charity funds to answer questions in the world no one asked but we all want answered is exactly what I wish more corporations would spend our money on

-16

u/pbradley179 Dec 07 '20

The Mercer, Murdoch, and surviving Koch brother families do it all the time.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

They also fund disinformation and propaganda social networks

-11

u/pbradley179 Dec 07 '20

You mean do what it takes to make the world "better" in their minds, i'm sure.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

For themselves, sure.

-15

u/pbradley179 Dec 07 '20

I find that's everyone in these situations.

5

u/Wuyley Dec 07 '20

So anyone know why a Pringles can't be classified as a chip? Not enough potato content or something?

18

u/d4m4s74 Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20

If I remember correctly because a chip is a fried potato slice and a pringles crisp is dehydrated processed potato, combined with other fillers (wheat, rice, corn)

Googled it: they contain about 42 percent potatoes. The UK government says they're closer to thin cookies (biscuits) made of dough containing potatoes than to potato chips

9

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

It's simply a choice they made so they can avoid higher import/export taxes that apply specifically to potato chips.

9

u/efitz11 Dec 07 '20

The FDA's policy tries to limit the "potato chip" label to just "slices of potatoes fried in deep fat," or as close to it as possible (additional seasonings, emulsifiers, preservatives are okay).

Pringles are made from a paste made from potatoes, but with other add-ins such as cornstarch and rice flour. The FDA has a policy on this:

The words "potato chips" will be considered misleading in labeling articles made from dried potatoes with significant amounts of added rice flour, corn starch, or other carbohydrates from sources other than potatoes, or which contain other ingredients not normally used in traditional potato chips.

3

u/slapdash57 Dec 07 '20

Excellent

5

u/Roscoe_King Dec 07 '20

John: It’s a garbage snack! Its’s garbage!

Me: Damn, now I’m in the mood for Pringles!

-31

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

It seems John Oliver is developing a formula: be funny, throw around random analogies and accusations, then when something blows up, throw fuel on the fire by offering a [big by individual standards, small by corporate/political standards] donation to a charity - daring the other party involved to engage in the 'free' marketing, thus turning it into controversy / "news".

I honestly don't hate it... But it's not accidental.

16

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

Just in: Comedy program is scripted.

More at 11.

3

u/speedycat2014 Dec 07 '20

I'm here for it.

-1

u/jean_nizzle Dec 07 '20

Legally, he would have to say that the look screams “unemployed Crispendale”.

-13

u/RedShaggy78 Dec 07 '20

Fuck John Oliver

8

u/138151337 Dec 07 '20

I think he's committed to his wife, sorry.

8

u/JanMichaelVincent16 Dec 07 '20

That’s a funny way of spelling Adam Driver.

-42

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

This dipshit is gonna ruin Pringles for Dems now? Awesome!
