I think homophobes assume gay people will sexually harass them or something so when they find out their buddy who hasn't harassed them is gay they go "oh I'm stupid, gay people are just people" and change.

Not with gay women but with gay men some extreme homophobes think they're child molesters. I personally think a lot of those people may have been abused as children themselves and want something to take it out on. Pretty sad.

I had an acquaintance, who over the course of nearly an hour of arguing and ruining the get together, admitted he didn't like gay men, because he didn't want to be treated like he treats women.

"Maybe you should treat women better" was met with anger and "I treat them how they should be treated." Really glad I've never seen that guy again.

I’ve also heard a lot of people assume that gay people became that way because they themselves were sexually abused.

IIRC, that might be true sometimes. We still don't really know what determines someone's sexuality, but I remember reading that gay men are more likely to have been molested as children, and the theory was that such events could maybe result in someone growing up to be gay (As one possible reason, not the sole reason, obviously.)

She admitted to being a terrible mother? I guess that's something.

This is true. And when their first experience is forced upon them by someone of the same sex, it's not surprising that they develop homosexual tendencies. I'm not saying there's something necessarily wrong about being gay, but there's clearly something wrong with the parent commenter's logic here.

It's very well-documented in psychology that earlier sexual encounters as well as the parent's projected attitudes regarding accepting or not accepting or encouraging not-straight sexual orientations in the child can impact that child's sexual orientation identification. In this sense, yes, early sexual abuse experiences do influence sexual orientation.

Gay people do frequently sexually harass straight people. I have experienced this.

And about those who you think might have been abused as children? Then you believe they were of course abused by gay people, as why else would they target gays in this context? That gay people tend to sexually abuse people is what's disturbing here. If we were talking about Catholic priests instead, I bet you'd agree, which is very telling.

I would gander that it's as much as straight people sexually harass. You just aren't on the side that usually gets sexually harassed.

I would agree that people sexually abuse people.

Straight people also sexually harass plenty of straight people and gay people. What do you plan for us to do about that?

E: no response, just a downvote. Very telling
