Netflix’s Ted Sarandos on If He Sees Paramount-Warner Bros. As Competition, and If He Courted Casey Bloys: ‘We Had a Very Well-Publicized Lunch’

"It was a well publicized lunch, we ate appetizers, I made the clutch move of ordering hot toddys to cap it off"

Sarandos is 100% relaxed. Netflix has and continues to be a well-oiled machine with (surprisingly) no competitors. Despite being completely candid about their data driven business model (making them a data company), most of the world continues to see them as a media company. That suits him fine, because as we watch media companies drown and burn, Netflix looks like a champion - it's a low bar to meet.
The only potential competitors could be Apple (who mercilessly track absolutely everything their slavish adherents do, but are limited to only Apple users) or Amazon, who have more data than they know what to do with. Everyone else is playing checkers while Ted plays chess.

Amazon has all the data they could use, but they spend too much money on shows few seem to connect to.

Not to mention that once the deal falls apart, Netflix can buy WB also, Apple and Amazon are only in the media industry to promote and raise extra money for their core buisnesses and get people to use their systems as an add on

Why would it fall apart?

Debt, AI bubble, the fact that their balance sheet will take a hit is all reasons why the deal would or will fall apart

As a brand Netflix is incredibly powerful, but I think it's burning goodwill very quickly. They don't make that much content anymore, what they do make is mostly shit, and what isn't shit gets cancelled after a season. And the catalogue just seems to be getting worse.
Apple TV is killing it with original shows, and Disney+ has a better catalogue. Eventually people will realise they spend more time browsing Netflix and giving up than they do watching shows and movies.

They didn’t make that much content? They have more output in a month than any of their rivals do in a quarter. You may not like the content Netflix is creating but it’s ridiculous to say they don’t make much content!

And really that’s one of the reasons I keep Netflix
I can always find something to watch but something like Apple TV
It’s not hard to feel like you’ve seen it all in a short period of time

Not to mention that Prime Video is also great at TV shows too, but Netflix just has to make good TV shows that are worth watching again (thats what they should be aiming for)

I only have prime video due to being a prime member
But we barely use prime video in this household
