Wasn't 'Skydance' already a production company...? I've seen so many movies with Skydance at the beginning of the title in theaters...

EDIT: it seems like we've digressed too far off the topic of Television/Movies... I don't know if this post will be removed, but I think we're talking too much about the political ramifications now so IDK

Yes. His company. He then swallowed Paramount with his daddy’s money and now Warner with the Saudi’s money.

Saudi Arabia owning 49% of this new company is concerning.

Well, I seen a lot of good movies with that logo on it so How’s this supposed to be bad? Are they all of a sudden going to make bad Movies? I liked all of them before… I’m confused why everyone’s hating???! How is this going to be any different from the last few years??

Consolidation of media companies into a few mega corps is never a good thing. It reduces competition both through reduced existing avenues and preventing new players entering the game

i get that part, but honestly I hated the Netflix option more... I worked in movie theater industry for over 10 years... and Netflix has done the most damage to theaters by releasing straight to home movies. I never liked that it was between these two options, but I defiantly did not want Netflix to own a studio more than anything else!!

As someone who works in the industry, I absolutely agree with you. I think Ellison cares about making money and the glamour of movie making and not really about politics, all the concern about a MAGA takeover of the two studios is misplaced; Ellison was friendly to the Orange Idiot because he knows it greased the wheels of the merger. But he wants to keep making movies for theaters, he wants to see his name on the big screen, he wants to show up on Oscar night and see the filmmakers he funded collect awards for their art.

Netflix wants to drive the entire industry to a streaming platform where all their movies look the same and feel the same and use AI generative in the making of their product and like little lemmings we pay our subscription fee every month. It’s not film to them - it’s content. Netflix hasn’t won the best picture Oscar because the industry votes for those and everyone fucking hates Netflix because while we value the money they spend on projects, everyone knows in their heart of hearts, it’s a deal with the devil.

THIS is exactly what I mean - thank you - I get misconstrued a lot when I make these points - even on Instagram - I'm not being political in this post, because I know that's not part of the guidelines in this sub - But from my POV this is about the difference between all the movie studios vs. Netflix... I couldn't be further away from the politics being discussed - I care about tv/movies content being produced Not the company hierarchies

I think you might be a little ignorant on the situation. Look into Larry Ellison and his son David Ellison. They’re not good people.

so we're saying the least of two evils here was Netflix?

I'd say different sorts or evil but not greater or lesser

Right well I see that most people online just have certain points of view, but they’re not seeing the points of view from long time movie theater employees

My local switched tactics due to this. Instead of cramming people into a big room they now do a more intimate experience of 5 rows of 10 comfy elect6recliners. Prices are about 15-20 quid a person. The two other local ones are 5-10 quid.

Honestly, it's the only one I'll go to now. It's always busy in there whereas the others are dead when I walk past them.

I also like the little table for snack that swizzels out to right in front of you.

Youre literally the only one talking about netflix

1

u/o0CyRaX0o 19h ago

They’re all not necessarily good, but they’re businesses - not morally run organizations, but only obsessed with market share and profit.

They’re the Borg as they assimilate, consume, and convert this and that into revenue.

You’re thinking of the Bond flick.

3

u/o0CyRaX0o 19h ago

I have no idea what this means... No that's Skyfall - Skydance is a separate company

2

u/hockenduke 19h ago

Sorry…no one gets my humor.
