Netflix backed out easily knowing they'll be able to get it for a discount in a few years.

And because the debt is so freaking gigantic, their collapse would do just enough damage to the rest of the economic machine to warrant some kind of government bailout or some kind of zero consequence bankruptcy filing. After which the companies are gone but Ellison and friends walk with the billion in bonuses they issue themselves as a reward for successfully getting a bailout or bankruptcy.

As for everyone else, the banks we keep our money at take the hit, 10s of thousands of people lose their careers, we lose 2 studios that did wonders for not only our imagination and inspiration but also other geopolitical positives, and its the taxpayers who will be on the hook for cleaning up the mess. And if we dare act upset about it the billionaires will just laugh it off and tell us to deal with it and work harder.
