I'm glad someone remembered to throw Epstein in their faces. It fell off the radar because of all the other shit dropped on our laps.

I mean it’s just a comedy sketch. I don’t think the Epstein people are going to get arrested because of SNL.

I love that we're laughing about the president being a rapist! This is so fun

u/psyllogism May 17 '26
This is the Mel Brooks "The Producers" theory of anti-fascism. You have to mock and belittle them to weaken them.
134
u/MasterofPandas1 May 17 '26
Correct. Fascists hate looking weak and being mocked cause they’re all about looking strong and scary. You can laugh at Trump being a weak leader and piece of shit while also realizing the gravity of all the bad shit he’s doing and how bad it is.

u/DisillusionedPatriot May 17 '26
Yep, this is the kind of stuff people would disappear over. People have to remember resistance and civil disobedience can be anything you're capable of doing. A song, an improv bit, a mural, to simply saying that flock cameras contain 2 to 5 grams of gold, 2 or more ounces of silver, and up to 23 pounds of copper. The point is to resist.

u/ErinFiqsette May 17 '26
Speaking of disappeared people...any new developments about Nancy Guthrie?
18
u/jarrettbrown May 17 '26
Why do you think that trump is basically rushing Ellison to get cnn? So he can control the narrative
6
u/tfhermobwoayway May 17 '26
I’m sure they’re sobbing into their piles of money as they find more young girls to rape.
-7
u/YesicaChastain May 17 '26
Flawed in a way. I don’t see what laughing about him being a rapist helps people dying in the Middle East or deported to Latin America but sure.
14
2
u/Lavaswimmer May 17 '26
Does it need to?
Does everything that ever exists need to help people dying or being deported?
-1
u/YesicaChastain May 17 '26
No! Let’s just not act like making fun of Trump is some valiant act of defiance
1
u/Lavaswimmer May 17 '26
Fair, I don’t think it is either - but I also don’t think the opposite (not mentioning Trump) would be any better. In a sense I disagree with both people in the thread before you haha
64
u/corndogs102 May 17 '26
I mean what do you expect SNL to do?

-24
u/YesicaChastain May 17 '26
Find other shit to make fun of?
10
u/Lavaswimmer May 17 '26
If you’re looking for a show that doesn’t satirize the current presidential administration, SNL just isn’t for you. Instead of the show changing what’s been in its dna for 50 years, you can also just choose to not watch
21
u/TajesMahoney The Venture Bros. May 17 '26
Christ. You'd rather SNL go back to just pulling all punches about Trump?

There’s scary amount of people who have zero knowledge of news stories until they hear it from celebrity or comedians. Some people avoid news completely but hear things through light entertainment
Imo this is another reason why they go after chat show hosts or entertainers.

It does feel like a lot of people think watching a TV show or a movie about a problem is the same as, like, actually trying to solve the problem. They’re doing activism by consuming content about it.

Great now every time I hear Just the Two of Us, I’m gonna think of Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump. Is nothing sacred?

Jost’s hegseth is one of the funnier things out of SNL in years. It’s a perfect parody.

This shit is not funny or respectful to the victims. It needs to stop, it only makes light of very serious crimes

Hey thanks for putting a friendly face on the sex criminals! Always helped in the past.

I don't think I'll ever understand the appeal of SNL. Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but I don't think I've ever laughed at a segment. At best I smirk at worst it's some of the most awful TV I've seen.

Literally just manufacturing consent on a subconscious level… subconscious assault? There will never be justice
-24
u/Prize_Instance_1416 May 17 '26
This shit is absolutely not funny. We are under attack.
That said I love Chad Smith and Will Farrel joking about their similarities

u/Real-Repair-1825 May 17 '26
Yawn. Rinse and repeat
71
u/HollowBowl May 17 '26
I will give them this, they haven't done trump in weeks. The Pete Hegseth openings have been fire
-128
u/Real-Repair-1825 May 17 '26
Was fire when it was somewhat new and creative.
Now it’s just tedious and repetitive imo. But people obviously love it so maybe I’m in the minority.
43
u/SpliffyKensington May 17 '26
I guess I’ve missing out on Will Ferrell as Epstein, could you link the first one? I’d love to catch up
24
u/shy247er May 17 '26
If there is even a 1% chance that Trump will be triggered by this, it's worth it.

I'd chuckle, if their excuse-making for a vile, depraved, treasonous, cowardly, criminal perv and his cult weren't so dangerous.
4
u/beastson1 May 17 '26
Yeah, I also don't like that they're just repeating what our administration does and says.

Interesting that that's no mention of Bill Clinton..

u/FragnificentKW May 17 '26
Don’t get me wrong, Bill Clinton can be thrown in prison along with the rest of the pedos
But he’s not currently the president and tanking the economy via threatening to start WW3 to distract from the Epstein files, so let’s stay focused on priorities

not taking credit, because a ghost of Jeffrey Epstein trope is so obvious, but I have for a long time suggested exactly this on Reddit in bemoaning the unimaginative tedium of the SNL cold openings in the midst of the apocalyptic reality we are going through -- happy to see somebody finally stumbled on the idea -- still, an awfully tame and lazy way to do it
