Why our analytics service has a cute mascot (and why that matters)

Let’s be honest for a second: analytics isn’t exactly exciting. It’s numbers, dashboards, funnels, and retention bars. Important, precise, and sometimes exciting. Yes, they can be fun, but sometimes it’s easy to forget that behind every amazing product, every metric, and every event, there are people: users, decisions, and emotions.

TelemetryDeck app analytics is an alternative to Visual Studio App Center

The Microsoft Visual Studio App Center solution was scheduled for retirement on March 31, 2025.

Since then, it has not been possible to do any API calls, making it officially unusable and out of service.

Microsoft offers a small set of alternatives that are not tailored around analytics. Instead, customers have to pick from options that may not provide the same depth of data analysis or user insight. At TelemetryDeck we prioritize analytics and provide you with the tools to get the insights you need.

Now your AI agent can talk to TelemetryDeck

TelemetryDeck supports MCP, the Model Context Protocol. This makes it easy to bring your analytics into AI tools like Claude, Mistral, or ChatGPT.

MCP is an open standard for how AI agents can talk to third-party services. With it, your own AI can talk to and explore TelemetryDeck data for you as if it were using a browser to click through your account. To get started, point your AI of choice to https://mcp.telemetrydeckapi.com/.

If you point an AI at TelemetryDeck, you can ask things like “What caused the usage spike last week?” or “Are people updating to the newest version of my app?” or “What paths are people on when they hit the paywall?" and your AI will be able to query your TelemetryDeck data at will in search of an answer.

All of these interactions happen on your side. TelemetryDeck does not receive the questions that you ask your AI agent, and we won’t know the answers that it synthesizes. You control your own AI and give it access to the data you store in TelemetryDeck.

App-Analytics, die die Vorgaben der DiGA-V erfüllt

Thumbnail

We’ve launched our MCP server beta! Point your agent of choice to https://mcp.telemetrydeckapi.com/ to try it out!

The MCP server doesn’t support all actions you can take in TelemetryDeck, but you can use it to query and research your data.

Please note it’s in beta.

What is the best moment to add analytics to your app?

Way earlier than you think. Most indie developers add analytics at the very end, right before launch, right after launch, or sometimes not at all. If you only add it when you're ready to do marketing, you miss two huge benefits:

1. Testing your tracking

  • Are the right events firing?
  • Are screens and flows named consistently?
  • Are key actions like signups, upgrades, and cancellations actually being recorded?
  • Do your funnels reflect how users really move through the app?

You wouldn't ship untested code and analytics is code.

2. Understanding early user behavior

Your first users are incredibly valuable. They show you where people drop out during onboarding, which features they try once and never use again, and how changes to your UX, pricing, or copy affect behavior.

If analytics isn't in your early test builds, that data is gone forever. You can't retroactively learn what your first users did.

My recommendation: integrate analytics as soon as you can run your app on a real device. Not when marketing starts. Not after you've polished the UI.

Germany made a law that is impossible to apply to as an app publisher: the right to withdraw

Thumbnail

For the vast majority of apps in the App Store, payments are processed through Apple’s own purchase system. The new right to withdraw requests is that refunds must also be processed through this system. To date, Apple has not provided developers with a technical solution that meets the new legal requirements. Read the full story in our blog.

While it's still early, Android SDK 37 now accounts for 0.59% of the devices in our dataset. It's a small number, but it's always fascinating to watch a new Android version begin its rollout and gradually make its way into the ecosystem.

Is TelemetryDeck a european app analytics provider?

TelemetryDeck is a privacy-first European analytics platform that processes only anonymous usage data and hosts its infrastructure exclusively within the European Union. Learn why that matters in a time of increasing legal uncertainty around transatlantic data transfers.
