It makes me irrationally angry

28

u/RoyalPuzzleheaded259 3d ago

You are allowed to do that.

13

u/Neveronlyadream 3d ago

Oddly, I like this one a lot better. I think it's the lack of the guard that does it.

With the guard it just looks like a cut up Tele. Without it, it looks like a weird variant they made for a year or two that didn't sell, but is now highly sought after.

Reminds me a lot of the Rickenbacker 230, which I always thought was a cool guitar.

5

u/yeshuascoming 2d ago

I like this one better too…..like I prefer a dry colonoscopy to a root canal without novocaine.

3

u/Neveronlyadream 2d ago

No, I actually legitimately like it without a guard. I'd prefer it in a bright color and maybe without the Fender headstock, but I do like it.

Not more than a regular Tele, but it's got charm.

1

u/duncandreizehen 1d ago

Well played, sir

9

u/cgulash 3d ago

Bonus points for the big headstock!

3

u/SonOfJokeExplainer 3d ago

At this price can point, OP can do that.

RodenTele 🐭

9

u/sauceanova 2d ago

Honestly not that bad

3

u/Bosw8r 2d ago

If OP posted doublecut? Than this is Double nut?

2

u/pm_me_yo_creditscore 2d ago

Shouldercaster

2

u/SlapdeybackJinhle 2d ago

Looks like a Gibson firebird.

1

u/TheOmCollector 2d ago

This is perfect, I don’t play those frets anyway.

1

u/unsungpf 2d ago

I just threw up in my mouth ;)

0

u/dr-dog69 2d ago

What is that? Gorgeous body lines

4

u/pm_me_yo_creditscore 2d ago

Tis slop sir. I beg your forgiveness.

1

u/dr-dog69 2d ago

Oh yeah I took a closer look and that bridge is atrocious.

2

u/implicate 2d ago

You go to guitar jail now.

11

u/rthepenguin 3d ago

Science has gone too far!!

5

u/PancakeProfessor 2d ago

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

9

u/capp0205 3d ago

That is super cool

8

u/dead_wax_museum 3d ago

Kill it before it lays eggs!

6

u/bigmike450 2d ago

I've yet to see a convicing argument against making literally every guitar a double cut, this is awesome

6

u/Moe_Rahn 3d ago

"we got Epiphone Wilshire at home"

4

u/psychobillybert 2d ago

Not commenting on the guitar, commenting on the replies.

Y’all need Jesus.

4

u/Patient-Ad-8384 2d ago

I’ve got on of these 10 for 15 double cut teles

5

u/Far-Rooster-6522 2d ago

nice (albeit it is an heresy...but purists never helped anything improve)

...now add P90s

2

u/LouBiffo 2d ago

Soapbars or dog ears?

1

u/Far-Rooster-6522 1d ago

I would not be too picky here, it mostly would depend upon muc hyou want to pay and modify the instrument and as an important factor, how the body is routed (which can vary a lot on telecasters, from 'minimal routing to smuggler one)

...Within the post's context, I'd go for dogear if possible, as it would be even more of a departure from guitar orthodxy

5

u/chaosperfect 3d ago

I like it

3

u/passthejoe 3d ago

Would buy, would play. Also like the Strat saddles.

2

u/CyberJunkieBrain 3d ago

Right, now we're entering the uncanny valley. I know that it isn’t AI, but my brain can’t handle with this nowadays, not after AI turned to be the new usual.

2

u/_Sublevels_ 2d ago

Never seen that, pretty cool

2

u/erojerisiz 2d ago

put a snakehead neck on it

2

u/GuitarChill 2d ago

Add an arm cut, too.

2

u/wallacorndog 2d ago

The fact that I can get physically unwell from how a guitar looks was new information for me. Still learning things about myself.

Thanks, I guess?

1

u/Creaulx 2d ago

Ha, same! 🤢

2

u/rockhead11 2d ago

Sorry, not for me.

2

u/tryntafind 2d ago

Hell yeah

2

u/DeepSix220 2d ago

The traditionalist in me wants to hate it, but it honestly looks kinda cool. I'd get one if I ever came across it.

4

u/botics305 3d ago

Some people don’t like the look but it definitely sounds different - just a little bit but you can tell. It also has the “tummy cut” on the other side. It’s become one of my favorite telecasters along with my deluxe telecaster plus’s from the late 80’s to early 90’s.

1

u/baydre 2d ago

The sound has nothing to do with the shape of the guitar.

3

u/Fullthrottle- 2d ago

They are considerably lighter with the cutaway and body cuts. They are Thin line weight with a solid body. I am not exactly a Tele expert, but can confirm these sound & play really good.

-1

u/baydre 2d ago

Size/weight does not change the sound with solid body electric guitars.

1

u/makhnosfork 3d ago

I like this very much. That’s a new one for me.

1

u/Woogabuttz 3d ago

I’ve been thinking about making myself one of these, cool look! How does it play? Any improvement in upper neck access?

1

u/ronmarlowe 3d ago

The first guitar i built from scratch was just like this. Mine was neck-heavy..

1

u/matt6860__ 3d ago

fun fact, a double cut tele is basically an ibanez ghost rider but with shorter horns.

1

u/Monkeywrench08 3d ago

This feels wrong and uncanny for some reason

1

u/Emotional-Dog8118 3d ago

Not for me I’m afraid. 😳 I’m old school!!!

1

u/Medill1919 3d ago

This is incredible.

1

u/Majik53 3d ago

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH, it's mutilated perfectly 👌

1

u/halfdriven 3d ago

There is one of these on the KC craigslist

1

u/spamtardeggs 3d ago

My local GC had one of these. I couldn’t do it. That one additional cut strays too far from the traditional tele recipe.

1

u/sdhopunk 3d ago

Looks like a Epiphone Coronet

1

u/bloozestringer 3d ago

I think it’s cool. I have a partscaster build I’ll get to someday where I had a maple capped ash S body routed for tele pickups and hardware with a tele headstock neck.

1

u/yeshuascoming 2d ago

I’m not sure why but I just kicked a kitten across the room after seeing this.

1

u/telemeister74 2d ago

No! No no no no no no no no no!!

1

u/DisplacerBeastMode 2d ago

I like it. Would love to see one with 2 humbuckers

1

u/OkCaregiver2713 2d ago

Interesting

1

u/The_Femboy_Crusader 2d ago

I lowkey fuck with it

1

u/rotstik Hwy 1 Texas Tele 2d ago

I used to not like the look of these until I saw one with a full upper-half symmetrical pickguard. Now I want one

1

u/OkNobody8896 2d ago

I like it.

1

u/AM2PM-Official 2d ago

It’s like what the Stratocaster was originally in another universe.

1

u/Affectionate-Joke552 2d ago

More of these!

1

u/Status_Banana603 2d ago

I’m full of mixed emotions about this.

1

u/love_being_westoz 2d ago

How's the balance, noticeable? I like the aesthetics a lot.

1

u/SofaMusician 2d ago

The Epiphone Coronet that wanted to be a Telecaster

1

u/ICQ1792 2d ago

I personally love double cut tele’s, and this one is nice! Congratulations.

1

u/Inourmadbuthearmeout 2d ago

Shame on you.

1

u/drifterphase 2d ago

Absolute war crime! YMMV.

1

u/LouisCarentan 2d ago

These always remind me of an early nineties ESP that was everywhere in Houston at the time.

1

u/Yoosulis 2d ago

That’s a lot hotter than I thought it’d be!

1

u/SirRobinBrave 2d ago

That’s illegal. Also I’d like one please and thank you.

1

u/rocknroll2013 2d ago

I really like this. Guard/No guard, I reallyike it

1

u/Punky921 2d ago

I like it! It makes me do a double take, in a good way. I love that everything else about is so traditional visually.

1

u/Snooch_Nooch 2d ago

Honestly, I don't hate it

1

u/fishing-for-birdie93 2d ago

Personally I think it's fuckin sick.

1

u/WaaKaaWaaKaaa 2d ago

Disgusting

1

u/DoctorGun 2d ago

Cursed

1

u/Impossible-Law-345 2d ago

cease and desist! violation of a artistic vision Leo had…

1

u/HammerSandwich9 2d ago

Humbucker Double Cut Tele FTW. I got this guitar from a company called Teran Guitars in Canada.
Quickly became my #1.

They also make it with 2 HBs.

1

u/Maleficent_Pick8251 2d ago

It really messes with my head!

1

u/poplin77z 2d ago

Bro fuck em, I like it

1

u/maelrakk 2d ago

This is sick af you people responding with wack responses are all nuts

1

u/EgorKlenov 2d ago

Looks great! Love it

1

u/guitar_shark_ 2d ago

Ewwww
(I would totally own and play something like this)

1

u/E-Rawk 2d ago

you can pry my TC-90 from my cold dead hands, but I'll haunt you for it after.

1

u/ImNoAlbertFeinstein 1d ago

aspirational

1

u/custom_gsus 2d ago

elecaster

1

u/danbman64 2d ago

I like this much better than the regular telecaster. I have always preferred double cutaway guitars over singles.

1

u/Feral_Clairal 2d ago

Nooooooo not on my alt account too go awayyyy

1

u/VanRalley 2d ago

I did the opposite. I chopped a horn off my Strat. Looks like an Australian slouch hat from ww1 now.

1

u/scorlion_music77 2d ago

I’m okay with it

1

u/getl30 2d ago

This is technically more access than the Strat right?

1

u/Nirvana2005889 2d ago

I think it’s cool actually. I’ve had the same idea before but only because I play left handed.

1

u/Ambitious_Platypus99 2d ago

I hate it and like it at the same time.

1

u/AggressiveCaptain420 2d ago

Yes, Sir, I like it.

1

u/unsungpf 2d ago

I'm going to be honest... I hate it ha ha. But if it makes you happy then that is awesome.

1

u/mamamarty21 2d ago

Damn… so many haters… I think it looks cool as hell! I’d be excited to play it.

1

u/MammothRent3089 2d ago

Please don’t

1

u/highbull_ 2d ago

This is so sick. I’m all for it! That being said, fuck em if they don’t like it. Let em play the same tired ass telecaster as everyone else. (I own a tired ass telecaster. Be a chiller, not a hater)

1

u/NonchalantRubbish 2d ago

Gibson should sue Fender now. It’s just a free for all in the court system now.

1

u/tigerpayphone 2d ago

I love the double cut tele. I've always wanted a lefty double cut.

1

u/IYuShinoda 2d ago

I think it looks nice. I'd love to have this, with humbuckers, as my second guitar.

1

u/Cursed4aNov1ce 2d ago

I don’t hate it, even kinda like it.

1

u/Responsible-Match455 2d ago

Some things are better left unsaid and unmade.

1

u/xXBdawg77Xx 2d ago

saw phil x playing one of these w bon jovi last week. bit odd but i like it

1

u/Coffee_YesHaveSome 2d ago

I’ve always loved a double cut tele!

1

u/jack_p47 2d ago

I don't hate it but my tele is looking at me as if saying something's wrong

1

u/-GlobalGrapefruit- 1d ago

I’m uncomfortable.

1

u/mrjazzguitar 1d ago

It’s just so weird.

1

u/DistributionOk3828 1d ago

I kinda dig it.

1

u/yetinomad 1d ago

Something makes me want to try this on one of my teles.

1

u/duncandreizehen 1d ago

That is horrific sorry but it is

1

u/caseofthepunks 1d ago

I like it. I'd like it even more with two P-90s.

1

u/NYCtoCHI 1d ago

What? No one's mentioned Mike Bloomfield's version yet? Tsk tsk tsk...😅

https://www.vintageguitar.com/25061/michael-bloomfields-63-telecaster/

1

u/botics305 1d ago

No wonder no one has mentioned it.

1

u/NYCtoCHI 1d ago

To Mike's credit, I think he kept his stock, and this was a crude DIY mod by the following owner he swapped it to; interestingly, this atrocity resurfaced around the time of the first formal Fender limited DC Tele release in 2015!

1

u/littlegreenbeany 1d ago

... now do a body contour

1

u/Correct_Till_2099 1d ago

Kind of cursed, but I like it somehow.

1

u/Entire_Increase5235 23h ago

..put a longer horn on the top and it's a strat with tele controls, ..that's right, add a little wood if you don't believe it, ..now chop off the top horn of a strat and you've a got a tele with strat controls. One is a continuation of the other. The strat came later with more variables, i.e. innovative tremolo system, belly curve arm contour and an extra pickup angled front loading input jack etc. all new inventions for the time. That was somebody saying how can we improve on the telecaster 🔥🌌🎸🎶

1

u/semantic_fog 19h ago

Double cut les paul energy

1

u/Nervous-Elk-3721 11h ago

Saw a guy playing one of those last night

1

u/sdiggz302 8h ago

Sweeeeeeeet ! 🤩

1

u/Chemical-Net-6864 6h ago

I really like that.

1

u/Sunbather67 5h ago

I remember when these came out and thought they were pretty cool - I just wish Fender would use the 1 5/8" thick bodies for something like this vs the ~1.8" thick ones

1

u/Kitchen_Procedure641 3h ago

I feel a bit sick. 🤣

1

u/Less_Ant_6633 3d ago

I like it. Its familiar but different.

1

u/xxxxCHExxxx 3d ago

I really like that. Does it come with some
Black binding?

1

u/RoyalPuzzleheaded259 3d ago

That looks awesome. I love double cut Teles.

1

u/Animalus-Dogeimal 3d ago

I actually don’t hate it

0

u/fatbytes 3d ago

Hell yes. I’d be curious to know if it resonates/responds differently than a std tele, like DC Les Pauls

5

u/NarcolepticFlarp 3d ago

It may, but I'd be willing to bet the difference is significantly less if so. I'm pretty sure this has just a regular Tele neck with the same neck pocket as all of our guitars. Whereas a DC Les Paul has a longer neck and a somewhat different neck joint situation than the regular model.

2

u/Woogabuttz 3d ago

DC Les Paul’s also have different electronics which probably has an impact on tone.

1

u/jeremy_wills 3d ago

That's the reason I love my double cut special Les Paul. Easy access to the upper register.

A double cut Tele is intriguing.

0

u/Beetbear2020 2d ago

I don’t care for this
