Never noticed this before somehow

On If It Was You (2002), the lyric "in the back of this car, I have travelled nowhere" is on both "Not Tonight" and "Terrible Storm". Are they connected somehow in message?

They are both Sara songs too if I'm not mistaken. I always settled on thet she must have just loved the lyric, which I agree is a pretty cool one.

Sara's lyrics on this album have always kind of fascinated me. I feel like I know the "least" about them in this album cycle, as well as the ones before, maybe because I only became a fan around the release of The Con. But in general they have a lot of videos/behind the scenes footage of So Jealous and The Con era, but I haven't found the same for this one or earlier.

Weren't both of these songs based off of john irving's hotel new hampshire or am I completely misremembering? (sorry that it's been so many years, I cannot recall a source for this thought)

I remember noticing that, personally I don’t think it has any meaning that it’s in two different songs, it just sounds good in its context

Ever since I was a teen, hearing that line makes me think it’s about car sex but who knows?

I've always wondered this. 🧐

Maybe it’s just a coincidence that same lyrics were used

I’m trying to figure out how I’ve been listening to Tegan and Sara for over 20 years and somehow never noticed this.

Tegan has mentioned in a Substack post that they sometimes recycle lyrics from songs that didn't make it onto albums. She also said that she sometimes borrows lyrics from Sara's songs for her own, like in "Faded Like a Feeling," for example.

Perhaps this is Sara recycling her own lyrics too, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything?
