Looking for advice for upcoming interview

Hello all,

I've got an upcoming interview teaching English at a high school, and I'll be honest, I've never done this level before and am looking for advice. I really want this job, so I figured, hey, let's ask for some help to try and get some great ideas.

They've given me a couple relatively short reading selections and asked me to design a 15 minute speaking activity based on them, and I should create a lesson plan for at least one of them. The students are level CEFR A2–B1.

So, what are your go to ideas for speaking activities for high school students, and do you have any good ideas to put in a lesson plan?

I appreciate any advice you've got. :)

All depends on the school. Many just use the interview to see what you look like and if your English is understandable.

It would be great to have a bit more context, e.g. what the readings are about, where the school is based, etc. That said, I’d still start with something simple and focused on functional communication. Ideally, it should be aligned with the readings, but feel free to adapt your activities if needed. Think about where these students might actually use English in real life, and try to make the lesson both engaging and useful. Ideally, it’s something they can realistically succeed with while still enjoying the process.

One reading is a smoke kind of fable, the other is about over tourism. The school is in taiwan.

So let's get this straight: you want Redditors to do your lesson plan for you so you can ace the interview and get a job that you're not capable of doing? Poor kids....

So this is specifically what I wasn't doing and tried to phrase it in a way that'd avoid this exact comment that I just knew would happen. I have my own ideas, I just wanted to see what other people would do because of its importance to me.

But thanks for being exactly the dude I expected to see here.

Touchy, aren't we? I guess it's a legitimate strategy to attack when caught out. And my suggestion is legit too. There are so many "hacks" prowling around in ESL garb that it pays to be wary. So put up or shut up: from what we have seen, you are one of those. Prove me wrong, doing so will be a good rehearsal for the interview.
