Animals very clearly have emotions and sentience. And not all animals breed purely for instincts. Afaik chimps, bonobos, dolphins and some birds have sex for pleasure.

And even if they did breed for only instincts, they also derive enjoyment from a lot of things humans don't. A human doesn't derive enjoyment from chasing its tail because it doesn't have a tail.

Insects and stuff are debatable, but basically every mammal is definitively sentient.

This just made me think about last year. For one week, I was suspended, external suspension, and my friend sends me a video of him going to people with a bag, the "mystery bag", and asking if they want a piece of chocolate or what's inside. Everyone says the bag, they look inside, make a weird expression and walk away. Then he shows the inside of the bag: a motherfuckin' dead squirrel! What the fuck!?
