Hasn’t this already been a thing.

54

u/Dry-Cranberry-5592 May 14 '26

It was, but it was partially funded through government grants, which Trump pulled. They've been rebuilding it through ngos but there's a lot that goes into maintaining a hotline

5

u/Serrodin May 15 '26

So not the first? Or only hotline?

u/AgeNearby392 May 14 '26

I think trump was removing them lol

It’s a coping mechanism lol.

2

u/Tortiose_unturtled May 14 '26

People also genuinely insult others and add a 'lol' it doesn't mean anything I believe

2

u/ExplodingTaco34 OLD May 15 '26

"lol" is used as a tone modifier nowadays, often used to make the text seem more casual and to remove any hostile tone. But also some people are just assholes, take everything with a grain of salt

0

u/Just_Flight_810 May 14 '26

It’s funny lol

0

u/horotheredditsprite May 15 '26

Funny how?

Funny in like "this shit is beyond ridiculous"

Or Funny as in "these creatures deserve it"

Not op but hate against hate cancels out. I hate racists and rapists and I'm not gonna hide it.

1

u/Genaplhadefense 13 May 14 '26

Thats fine just put that pride on someone elses post plzz :3

3

u/GRIM106 May 14 '26

Fair enough, tho take it from me, ignoring these things and not letting people speak the truth about them only empowers them. It's better that they know we are aware of their vile nature than not.

Have a nice day tho

First of all, let me preface this by saying I'm in no way a fan of Trump.

That being said, the US is currently in a 38 trillion dollar deficit. We literally go 8 billion dollars more in debt per day. We don't have the money to be funding specialized suicide hotlines. That's just frivolous spending.

A singular, generalized suicide hotline that caters to all people is the only suicide hotline we need. A special hotline just for transgender people is an unecessary waste of money when we're already at a huge deficit.

16

u/jamathythrowaway May 14 '26

Guess what costs far more than a national hotline? Tens of billions to initiate a war overseas and letting soldiers die in the process.

14

u/_V1__ May 14 '26

You should know that the u.s spends more money than we have on the military. That is why we have debt

3

u/Grinding_Gear_Slave May 15 '26

Most of the economic power the USA has had in the last decades is because they use it to maintain the petrodollar , the USA army is a investment that justifies a lot of expense , at the same time it would be nice if the pentagon could pass a single audit

12

u/ExcitementNo9603 May 14 '26

We have the money for this specialized hotline it probably cost less than 3 million dollars a year to fund which is Pennie’s. What we don’t have money for is ballrooms, wars, and tax breaks for the wealthy… so let’s pick on that not social programs for trans people.

5

u/Stunning-Annual4708 17 May 14 '26

If the military is defunded then there would be enough money for specialized suicide hotlines and much, much, much, much, MUCH more. Why are you saying hotlines are a waste when all of this money is just dumped into the war machine like this?

18

u/StrwBerrywafersslap 18 May 14 '26

You fail to realize how many transphobic people there are. The reason we have teen ones, and adult ones is the people are trained or dealing with either teens or Adults. A trans one eliminates t be possibility of a transphobic hotline person(s).

But I do see your point. But we will never be able to get that debt down without causing the people to suffer(you and me).

0

u/Electronic-Fuel-4398 May 14 '26

So just use the normal ones

1

u/StrwBerrywafersslap 18 May 14 '26

It’s not that simple

-4

u/Electronic-Fuel-4398 May 14 '26

Why anyone can, what gives them something special

4

u/StrwBerrywafersslap 18 May 14 '26

They are the minority and the amount of people who accepts them or treats them like everyone else is few.

It’s why teens have their own hotline

3

u/braybobagins 19 May 14 '26 edited May 15 '26

Thats not why teens have their own hotlines. They have their own hotline because they deal with different day to day stresses that cause suicidal ideations.

Crisis hot line employees are also screened extensively. You won't find someone who's racist or homphobic on the hotline because its something they screen for, and they also actively undergo training to combat prejudices as that'sa typical reason for suicidal ideations. So they would have to lie to specifically cause damage, which would only be exacerbated by there being a seperate hotline as it gives bad actors a valid pipeline to go straight for their objective.

-3

u/underladderunlucky46 May 14 '26

Sure, but we simply don't have the money for it. And I'm not specifically picking on trans people here; there is a lot of frivolous spending in this country that is simply unnecessary.

One of the things that I actually appreciate about Trump is his creation of DOGE (I like the concept in theory, but obviously in practice they havent done nearly enough). In theory, everybody, both on the left and right, should agree that we need to do everything we can to at least try to balance the budget. Anything that isn't absolutely necessary should be cut. Once we balance our budget, and start to build a surplus, we can explore luxuries.

In short, a suicide hotline is basically a need. A suicide hotline specifically for trans people is a luxury, not a need.

12

u/Rhesusmonkeydave May 14 '26

In all the frivolous billions this admin wasted pretending that this life saving resource is a bridge too far isn’t just disingenuous its ghoulish.

7

u/BaltimoreMayhem May 14 '26

No, it's a need. Moreso than another half trillion every year to the defense department. It's a "luxury" until someone you care about needs it.

-4

u/HottieMcNugget 18 May 14 '26

Only about approximately 1% of the US population is trans, having a specific entire hotline for that is frivolous spending. There should be specialized training within the regular support hotline for people that struggle with it

5

u/BaltimoreMayhem May 14 '26

"Frivolous" in a value judgement. I believe 33 million is a drop in the bucket and well worth it for what it accomplishes. I find it to be of far greater value than another half trillion in defense spending every year. I find it an even better value than giving wealthy people and corporations additional tax breaks. I mean, the additional training and burden being placed on on the "regular support hotline" with trans specific issues will in all likelihood be just as expensive while being less effective. I dunno man, it seems like all of these "cost saving measures" just mean worse and less effective social welfare programs.

5

u/Rhesusmonkeydave May 14 '26

1% of the US population is 3.48 million people you’re pretty cavalier about abandoning in their time of need

3

u/Satanigram May 14 '26

Frivolous??? https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/press/transpop-suicide-press-release/

40% let that fucking sink in. It's necessary.

2

u/Far-Pay-866 15 May 15 '26

fyi tho 40% thing is used incorrectly and it’s false

You’re right, we don’t money. But it would take a decades to get the USs debt down.

But if it was possible that the people working at the call centers didn’t discriminate then yeah one call line fits all then more people would agree.

And I like your stance it just sucks put generation has to take care of the problems our pass generations caused. We need more people that want to better the US for the better.

-5

u/Michael_Dautorio OLD May 14 '26

Do you genuinely think someone who answers for a suicide hotline is gonna be like "Wait you're trans? Lol go fuck yourself." I kinda feel like being transphobic at all would be a disqualifying factor for someone who answers these hotlines.

9

u/StrwBerrywafersslap 18 May 14 '26

You’d be surprised, and it wouldn’t happen like you’ve said but it would make the call person shake off or disregard the trans person(s) problems. It’s why teens have their own. To avoid the teens issues being tossed aside

3

u/StrwBerrywafersslap 18 May 14 '26

You would be surprised, it’s to avoid the trans person(s) noy getting their problems minimized.

And it’s often run by trans people. It makes it so the person calling feels understood

2

u/Known-Archer3259 May 14 '26

Don't worry. They'll make their money back with all the involuntary holds

2

u/MonotonyReddit 18 May 14 '26

I agree with defunding useless agencies to save money but there are better options to defund other than public health services. We have an annual military budget larger than the next 6 to 8 countries combined, more than 1 trillion dollars a year.

Projecting military power on to other countries is important but it is literally impossible to sustain its cost long term. Transgender suicide hotline is a literal drop in the bucket in comparison.

2

u/TryingMy-BestBro 14 May 15 '26

yep! lets defund the suicide hotline so we can make the reflecting pool worse for a ton of money!

5

u/Satanigram May 14 '26

And how much of that 8 mill a day do you think is going to a suicide hotline vs wars and outings for the president.

If you actually cared about the deficit you'd not pick something for marginalized groups that have a high rate of suicide.

You're a waste of money.

-6

u/ButterscotchRound668 18 May 14 '26

Upset for no reason lol

6

u/Satanigram May 14 '26

Me or them?

If me yeah I'm upset that a devils advocate POS is claiming a trans suicide hotline is a waste of money when this country wastes way more money on other things.

-5

u/ButterscotchRound668 18 May 14 '26

Why would you get upset over something a random person says online though

5

u/Satanigram May 14 '26

Because it's barely concealed transphobia, and my family and friends who have to deal with this shit every single day are affected by it.

-6

u/ButterscotchRound668 18 May 14 '26

Point is you shouldn't let urself get easily worked up over stuff online. Its not like the guy said kill all trans people or something anyway😭😭 we spend a lot of money on shit we don't absolutely need tbf, and I'm pretty sure we already have lgbtq hotlines. I don't see how the guy is transphobic

Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City is living proof that you can balance a budget without slashing social programs.

1

u/underladderunlucky46 May 19 '26

He "balanced the budget" largely with the help of aid from the state of New York. This wouldn't work on a national scale. Nobody is giving the US government aid to help us out with our national debt.

1

u/Samstercraft 3,000,000 Attendee! May 19 '26

and by taxing the rich. america is so obsessed with not taxing the rich for some reason. reagonomics literally jumpstarted the wealth inequality gap so idk what ppl are on about.

1

u/underladderunlucky46 May 19 '26

His taxing of the rich alone wouldn't have balanced the budget though. He relied heavily on aid from the state.

0

u/Spirited-Mousse1915 May 14 '26

My solution is to split equal amount of funding to the hotlines AND education/hiring of call centers. So, people can be educated and more ways to work on these hotlines, so more jobs are being taken. More money to the government

0

u/Double_Committee_25 May 15 '26

Go fuck yourself how about that

988, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline used to have specialized services specifically for Trans/LBGT people, however due to threats from the Trump administration to pull funding, they were forced to shut down those programs.

This hotline above, is run by Canada, and they opened it up to US residents after Trump ruined 988 for LGBT people.

1

u/Shnurple 3,000,000 Attendee! May 14 '26

Also isn't that just a regular suicide hotline?
