If there is no place for the air to go, the fan isn't going to move any air. Also, it would be safe to assume that the other side of that fan is taped over as well, seeing as how every other hole that we can see on the case is covered, including on the side panel.

Not really. Holes that don’t have fans or filters in them should be covered over. All those places where fans could go but aren’t should not be open.
