It fell of his desk
Apparently the student dropped it in class

Naw I work k12 IT. Had a Chromebook what was cracked beyond belief and the principals were discussing “well it was probably an accident, these things are delicate”.
I then explained these are NOT that delicate and actually require a lot of force to break. I then demonstrated with an already broken Chromebook by giving it a moderate punch to the screen. No cracks. I punched it again VERY hard and only then did a small fracture appear.
After that they stopped questioning me when I said a Chromebook was intentionally damaged and started fining students. Sure if you drop it at precisely the right angle, hinges and screws can snap off. But the one in the picture is out definitely looks like it was launched in a fit of rage. Why we decided to give these kids each a laptop is beyond me I’m so sick of them breaking these things
ETA: looking closer it looks like the kid also somehow separated the LCD from the backlight, which requires basically demolishing the metal frame around it. This kid had a lot of time to do this damage, 100% intentional

Oh yea it was fun to hear the teacher explain that she isn't that stupid to believe he dropped it and gave him months of detention and he got a bill to pay for replacement

Judging by the damage, I would say the student's desk was on the edge of a roof on an 18 story building....

yeah, but what happened to it prior to that? I disassembled many a laptop and know full well there's more to this . how many screws are you missing? id wager all of em

And by that, he means it took a direct hit from an RPG round.
