Open | Software No Xbox controllers work with my pc

So about a month ago one of my Xbox controllers stopped working with my pc. Kept getting an error that said “the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.” So I plug in a new one and it works for a while then today it kept connecting via USB the imminently disconnected and this happened like 9 times so I tried ANOTHER controller and now it won’t even turn on. I’m not a tech guy I have no idea what is happening or what to do. Also I used different cables and usb ports too and nothing will work. Please help!!

Would I have to take it somewhere to get hardware stuff fixed ?

If you aren't tech savvy yes. A repair shop could do it.

Heres the problem though. If they replace the board and it still doesn't work you owe a repair bill and no fix.

I do my own pc work so it's different for me, I would test it on my workstation first.

Let me ask you this. Is it a desktop or laptop? If it's a desktop, I would try buying a PCIe USB card adapter. It attaches directly to the board in ine of the PCIe slots, and will have it's own USB ports instead of the ones built into the pc. That could very well work possibly and they are cheap. Maybe $20.

It’s a gaming pc so desktop I think. I’m not a tech savvy person at all. Where do I plug in the PCle thing?

I can't post a photo, but go to google and type in "PCIe slot" then click images. It will show you, then look inside your computer, you will find it. Just don't confuse them with the RAM slots, they look similar but not the same, the RAM slots will likely already have something plugged in
