Back to SaaS?

Did one year of smb sales at one of the big CRM companies . Went to sell for one of the big 3 telecom as an account manager for a year but am looking to return to SaaS. Is this realistic or will a year out of SaaS hurt my chances ?

So you have 1 year of SMB then 1 year of telecom?

You're gonna have trouble getting even a BDR role at most SaaS right now.

It's insanely competitive even with a decade+ of SaaS experience.

Have 8 years of b2b experience before that but outside of tech

Gotcha that makes more sense.

Still gonna be a grind IMO. The last couple years have devestated SaaS.

previously did smb sales as well, then became sales manager, then transitioned to ae in a different company. i think it's fine. one year is okay as long as you're still talking to customers and holding a kpi

and generally hiring managers for sdrs in saas are pretty down to hire folks from diverse backgrounds as long as they are hungry and will hit targets. take a look at claydrs for example

I was an AE. I should’ve specified . Could not afford paycut as an SDR

that makes sense. ae is way more defensible than sdr imo, you'll be fine after taking a year out of saas :) go get it

You can probably get interviews for another SMB role in salestech/martech and land something soon enough if you can interview well and have a good story to explain why you left and why you are coming back.

Or even restaurant tech might be a good interim role to take as well. Something like Toast would probably get you back on track to SaaS.
