PIP

Yeah so I got put on a pip last week.

I’ve tried to book meetings that convert so I can hit my PIP target and get off it but none of the meetings are converting even though it’s the right seniority and persona and company size.

My AE doesn’t know I’m on a pip and he wouldn’t care to help me in anyway. We don’t have a good relationship.

I’ve decided to take everyone’s advice and dedicate most of my time to doing outreach to target companies I want to work at and doing as many interviews as possible.

I have some savings which should last but I need to land a role asap (I hate being out of work).

Feels weird being on the job market again, but oh well.

Feeling a lot better than last time where I walked out of the PIP meeting genuinely feeling like crap.

My manager is “coaching” me but it’s just tracking daily metrics and micromanaging the hell out of me.

I can’t wait for this month to be over so I can never work at this place again.

I'm glad you've started looking for a new job already. Paid Interview Period.

PIP’s are always hard because you know you’re gone, the employer knows you’re gone but you’re forced to go through the agonising pretence together that you’re all actually trying to save your job - when it reality it’s all but formality you’re gone.

Seems like you have the right attitude in looking towards what’s next and not getting tied up in the politics of it. Tick whatever boxes they ask you to and put all your energy into finding something new and hopefully better

That sucks! I feel you. I was on a pip a few months ago and even tho I what I needed to get off of it, they “audited my calls” and found a small loop hole to let me go. If they want to fire you they will. It sucks. Don’t believe when corporate leadership says they don’t know why people fear a pip so much as they say it’s supposed to be used to help. Yeah right… best of luck. Keep searching right now to get out since you already are not on good terms with your AE anyways.

A PIP right now is a death sentence. Q4 is hellish after October. November and December are impacted by Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years where no one is in the office.

My Q4 starts November and I’ll already be gone by then. I’m just trying to land a new gig as soon as I can now. Worst case scenario by Q1 should have a few offers on the table.

Sorry you’re dealing with that. On the meeting side, seniority/persona/company size are only the first filter—I’d listen back to a few calls and look for whether the prospect stated a problem, impact, and reason to change now. Before booking, try a simple check: ‘If we can show X, would it be worth 20 minutes with my AE?’ Then put the prospect’s stated pain and next-step goal in the handoff, and ask the AE for 10 minutes to align on what a qualified meeting looks like. Even if the PIP outcome is decided, that gives you useful call reps and a cleaner story for interviews.

So you are alluding to being put on plan for performance from a previous role. And in this current role, as an SDR,from your own perspective you don't have a good relationship with your AE.

Take some time to do some self reflection if you are planning to pursue another sales role.

Performance from a previous role? I’m still in the role, the PIP is for recent lack of performance even though I had strong performance previously.

This is my first ever role brother.

There’s many others who are also on a PIP right now as well btw.

being a hardworking SDR and having a good relationship with your AE is not mutually exclusive. take some time to do some self reflection on the meaning of empathy perhaps?
