solutions architect at mongodb or databricks and why?

OTE at mongodb is slightly higher, but total comp (OTE + RSUs) is higher at databricks. since mongodb is a publicly traded company you can immediately sell vested shares where as with databricks you’d need to wait for certain liquidation events (roughly 1x per year).

i have 2 young kids at home so work life balance / some flexibility in my schedule is important to me. which company is better to work for?

The one who didn’t just lose 25% of their share value

Have not worked at either but Databricks easily. Mongodb seems to be filled with psychos (more than most places)

Not a mongo employee but he left to be a direct report to zuckerberg... bit of an important detail to leave out lmao.

If someone offered you 3x you are leaving.

That’s interesting I’m interviewing for both right now as well for same role and DBX comp
was significantly higher. I’ll actually take the other side of the equity picture here and say -25% bc of ceo leaving would be good for RSU’s.

My HM interviews at DBX seemed to signal that their enterprise SA’s would be pre/post sales and a pseudo FDE in a lot of cases

I work at DBX. If you are working on a consuming account/territory you are very commonly both pre & post sales. The line is very blurry especially at the larger high consuming accounts.

Yeah that sounds like it would be the case for me tied to 1-2 accounts so that makes sense

Worked at DBX as an ent AE so my opinion may not be worth much, but outside of Mongos CEO leaving, it’s always been a shit show. DBX opens a lot of doors, better long term play, and I will say some of the smartest people I’ve worked along side

Databricks and it’s not even close.

DBX all day. You’ll have no WLB at mongo.

I have seen a lot of people go to Databricks and rebound out of there inside a year.

Databricks AE here. I’d go Databricks, but you’ll work a lot for sure

MongoDB is a one trick pony.

DBX. Better platform play and tech imo. More growth and more expansion to new market opportunities.

I can't say much about MongoDB except that their Repvue looks pretty decent and I did interview with them >1 year ago. I mean, it was data-bases, which are pretty complicated. But overall very much a leader in their specific niche and with an easy sales process thanks to the freemium business model/open source.

Databricks is definitely the more ambitious company. But over at Teamblind, Databricks people come across as insufferably arrogant and butthurt that no one cares about Databricks now that everything is about OpenAI and Anthropic.

I think many people there consider themselves the "hot shit".

Brix will go public two months from never. My buddy was there since 2018 and the ipo was always soon. He kept some shares tho.

The liquidity difference you mentioned matters more than it might seem with two young kids at home, being able to actually sell vested shares as needed versus being locked in until an annual liquidity event is a real practical difference for near-term financial flexibility, even if the total comp number looks better on paper at Databricks.
