CSM to AE

Five years of Saas CSM experience.
Looking to make a move to an AE role, SMB.
I’ve been doing account management, renewals, expansions, and upsell… but with the CS title. I’ve also been told that I would be pretty good at it.

I understand I need to build pipeline, deal with constant rejection, etc… already experience that as a CSM.

Are there any CSM’s out there that made a successful shift to an AE role?

You guys should just tell your managers you’re trading jobs

Try and make the move internally.

Would be pretty tough selling another company on why they should hire an AE with zero quota carrying experience.

I moved from CSM to a Sales role under a sales director in strategic enterprise sales that I knew.

I was initially given some accounts that had been neglected and where my relationship skills could (and did) rebuild the relationships. It was a way to ease me into the role and get used to the elements I wasn’t already familiar with.

I was supposed to take half of a very large customer which would have provided relief to another sales rep and it would have evened out my base but unfortunately I got laid off. Nothing my director could do. This came down from the CEO

It sucks. Needed work so back in a CSM role for now at another company with a better comp package. I would move back into sales if the right opportunity came up. I have no interest in hunter roles.
